Editor Press:
As 1 understand your column-
are open to discussion I wish to
call tlio attention of tho majority
voters who upheld corporation
last eleel ton to homo reasons why
they should now change over and
assist to abolish.
1st Promises wore made of
igood schools. Thoro not being
enough money vi now Iiavo a
month less school tins year and
a prospect lor four months in all
next year. If moiihv is to he
raised a lax will have to bo voted
and wo do not wish to lie taxed.
Times are too hard besides if it
is advertised that Angelo has
good schools more people will
uciim in to send to school and we
can't furnish room for what wo
have. Ily abolishing wo may
take in a big school district if
the owners are willing to it and
get more taxes; because tho out-
siders will have any votes to keep
from being taxed.
2nd. Sewers and good streets
were promised but not a dollar
has been expended on sowers and
the rain carries oil" all the green
filth from the present sowor whon-
I'vor it rains. That has answered
every purpose up to now anvwav.
Jlrd. The old debt of tho town
wits to bo arranged for this has
not been done and if we knock
out corporation now it may bo a
good many yours before wo will
have to pav anything on it.
-Itli. Kiro protection was to bo
provided but tho waterworks
company gets as much now from
tho city as it did from tho citi-
zens boforo tho incorporation.
Tho city tax on non-rosident prop-
erty owners for this purposo dis-
satisfies them and they arc liable
to pull out and withdraw their
capital at any time and I don't
see how the town can build tip
without capital.
5. Tho gambling houses have
been closed which cuts the coun-
ty ollicers out of their cases
against gamblers which helped
them make a living lho town
always has had gambling and no
body has to buck at tho games M
they did not want to. They have
stoimod card nlayint; in ho sa
loons too which causes them to
lose custom for nobody will sit
around all day and buy drinks
unless thoy can have somothing
to amuso themselves with.
(ith. They lmvo mado most of
tho saloons close up on Sunday.
Ho if a man wants a drink on
Sunday morning ho has to hunt
around till he finds somo saloon
where thoy aint afroid of a fine.
That cuts oil" Sunday business
from most of tho saloons and
throws tho ha1 keepers idle and
knocks oil' profits because wages
go on by the month tho same as
if open and that leavos the sa-
loon keonors idle too with noth
ing to do but go to church sit
around home or go fishing.
7th. They have made a law
against spitting on tho sido-walk
and somo men dodgo out to spit
in tho street but others just spit
big gobs of mattor right on tho
sidewalk and postollico and wo-
niens' dresses wipes it up when
thoy don't carry them in thoir
hands. 1 don't seo any uso in
all this law business unless it is
enforcod. It is better to lmvo no
law.
8th. Thoro is a law against
childron going to school with di
sease that scorns usoless as there
has not boon a case in school
sinco tho law passod.
flth. Groat talk was made
about having a U. S. court houso
built and froo dolivory but wo
lmvo nothing of tho kind and if
wo can't lmvo it when wo want it
thoro is no uso trying to got it
ospeoially whon tho U. S. Court iB
liable to bo niovod away at any
timo which would bo a good thing
anyhow for all jurors who wont
to El Paso usod to draw nuloago
clean around by Fort Worth ovory
trip Bosidos all this thoy had a
majority in tho last two oleotions
which tho anti-corporationists
did not half try to win and turn
about is "Faiii Pi.ay."

To Dissolve the Corporation.
A petition is being circulated
and a numborof signatures have
boon scour d thereto nskiim for a
special election to dissolve the
corporato jjovornrnent of tin- "lty
of San Angelo. The petit loners
ask Judge Mays to call an Mic-
tion for this purpose.
Now whether you believe in in-
corporation or whether you ate
opposed to it you will doubtless
want to exorcise your right of
suirrago. You can't do it unless
you have paid your poll tax by
Saturday night. Hotter nttet d
to this matter now.
Federal llulldlng for Sim Angela.
Tho Business Club is in receipt
of a communication from our
representative in Washington say-
ing he had placed an item in tln
appropriation bill for 8100.000 to
build a federal building in San
Angelo and requnsting all pos-
sible assistance to have it passed.
The Club at once selected an able
citizen to proceed to Washington
in the matter when it is con-
fronted with a statoinuiit that a
petition lor election to disincor-
porate is being circulated. The
directors felt at once that it
would so handicap the attempt
to secure the building that if the
petition took definite shape it
will bo unwise to expend the
necessary expense money. As of
course it is a well established
fact that no building of this kind
will bo constructed in a village.
