Action of Kansas Live Stock Board.
Kansas City Mo. Jan. 10 '01.
Special to The Press:
The action of tho Kansas Live
Stock Sanitary Hoard 111 accept
ing government inspection on all
cattle from states and territories
south and west of that state
means the saving of many thous
ands of dollars to th'i cattlenion
of Oklahoma Texas New Mexico
and Colorado it also means the
enhancement by many thousands
of dollars ot the value of Kansas
pastures the coining season.
Tho Kansas Hoard formerly
took tho position that it would
insist upon tho inspection of all
cattlo coming into tho state from
tho south and west and tho col-
lection of inspection foo of two
cents per head provided for by
tho state law regardless of
whether tho cattlo were accompa-
nied by a certificate of inspection
from an agent of tho federal
bureau of animal industry.
Whon tho work of eradicating the
scabies from tho cattlo of tho
Southwest began this two cent
feo bocamo a heavy tax upon
cattlenion. Tho bureau of ani-
mal industry took clmrgo of cer
tain sections of the cuttle country
and began tho systematic inspec-
tion of shipments. Theso wore
held up again at tho Kansas lino
dolayed for hours and tho feo of
two cont per head collected.
Tho mattor was brought to the
attention of tho Kansas Hoard
which recognizod tho UBelossnoss
of a dual inspection and agreed
to admit to the state without fur-
ther inspection till shipments ac-
companied by certificates from
agonts of tho bureau of animal
industry.
Bocontly tho Kansas Hoard has
notified Colonel Albert Doiin
agent in charge for tho bureau of
animal industry that no inspec-
tion will be required of cattle
from tho specially quarantined
counties in Texas and Oklahoma
when they are accompanied by a
eortifieato from a federal inspec-
tor. No charge is mado for tho
federal inspection.
John W. Pottor bought 515 head
of stock horses from 15. F. Hyrd
at $15.5 round.
Tho scab insjioctor of Edwards
county is making it a littlo ox-
ponsivo for soino of tho shoop-
inon. F. O. Porry of San Angolo
was in tho Sonorn county sovoral
days buying mules. IIo bought
some from G. S. Allison and John
Ilobbins. Devil's Itivor Novvs.
ALL OVER THE HOUSE.
Furnishings and Care of the Right
Kind of Bedrooms.
Bedrooms ought to be bedrooms
and nothing else says Carolina
Hunt in the Homo Beautiful. She
ndvocutcs sleeping in garret rooms
if there is no other placo in tho
house where one can fit up a bed-
room and a dressing room separate-
ly. Tho floor of the. bedroom should
be of laud wood or at least painted
(0. that it can bo wiped up with u
damp cloth and o that there need
he no dust to get into the bedding
when it is aired every day 111 the
tun as it should be. Beds which
are light enough to be moved easily
and cleaned easily are naturally the
boot beds for they may be moved
from one position into another and
always be where they get the most
sun in the daytime nnd the best 1111
at night. If thu headboard is no
higher than the footboard as in
the iron hingle beds the position
of the lied 111 the 100111 is very much
easier to determine since it may
even be pusheii against 1110 wuu
sideways without appearing awk-
ward. Withstands and dressing tables
should not bo s-ohd to within a few
inches of the Hour but open m that
thu floor may bo easily cleaned.
And bedrooms should never be used
for dressing rooms at an afternoon
or evening gathering. To throw
outside wraps upon tho bed is to
make a nest for the microbes of the
street which tiro ever ready to de-
vour. For Mending Purposes.
An excellent cement for mending
almost anything may ho ntiidc by
mixing together litharge and glycer-
in to the consistency of thick cream
or fresh putty. The cement is use-
ful in mending stone jars or any
coarse earthenware stopping leaks
in seams of ttnpuus or wash hollers
cracks and holes in iron kettles
etc. It liiav also be used to fasten
on lump tops or tighten loose nuts
to secure loose bolts whoso nuts are
lost to tighten loose joints of wood
or 11011 or in ninny other ways
about (ho various kitchen utensils
the range the sink and in the pan-
try fittings. In all cases the article
mended should not be used till thu
cement has hardened which will re-
quire from one day to a week ac-
cording to the quantity of cement
used. The cement will resist the
action of water hot or cold acids
and almost any degree of heat.
Uses For Salt.
Salt on the fingers when cleaning
fowls meat or fish will prevent
slipping.
Salt thrown on a coal fire when
broiling steak will prevent blazing
lroin tho dripping Int.
Salt in water is the best filing to
clean willow ware and matting.
Salt put on ink when freshly
spilled on a carpet will help in re
moving the spot.
Salt in tho oven under baking
tins will prevent their scorching on
the bottom.
Salt and vinegar will remove
stains from discolored teacups.
Salt thrown on soot which bus
fallen on tho carpet will prevent
stain.
Salt used in sweeping carpets will
keep out moths. Cooking Club.

Larger Rooms.
New bouses show a tendency to-
ward larger rooms nnd fewer of
them. The bathroom which in
ninny of the older houses is a small
room with jusl enough t-pace to turn
round in is now built larger since
it is to be used by nil thu members
of tho family who often keep in it
their toilet articles. Downstairs ar-
chitects plan to have at least one
largo living room. The largo cen-
tral hall which can be used as a re-
ception and sitting room is growing
in favor. Largo chimneypicccs
which are not only decorative but
useful arc a favorite feature of
these hospitable and cordial looking
halls.
