Japanese and Napoleonic Tactics.
Napoleon Bonaparte was the
greatest military commander the
world has ever known but Na-
poleon's defeat at Waterloo is
is traced back to his advance into
Russia. Historians agree that
the forced retreat from .Moscow
with itB Russian rear guard and
Jlank attacks was the undoing of
Napoleon.
Russia seoms not to have profit-
ed by Napoleons experience yet it
would seem that they expected
the Japanese would fall into the
the same trap. They met thp
Japs near the southern extremity
of .Manchuria and enticed them
north but their plans miscarried.
The Japs used the Btime method
of warfare with them that they
used with Napoleon and the Japs
were successful. In one day of
the Russian retreat their losses
were 5000 killed and wounded.
While the Russians are employ-
ing the same tactics in fighting
the Japanese they used in fighting
the French army the Japanese on
the other hand are profiting by
the tactics of both sides of the
Napoleonic wars and are making
good. This knowledge obtained
by study and observation and
UBjd so successfully by the Btren-
uous littleEnsterners is what holds
them in admiration of all the
world.

J D Brown wbb standing on tne
sidewalk on Chadbourne Street
Saturday morning when a genuine
Mexican boll wevil alighted on
his neck. "By Jingoes" ho said
"I came out here from .McLennan
County to got away from the boll
weevil and now here is one flying
around in San Angelo." The in-
sect was captured and bottled and
will certainly not bo "unbottlod."
Ho is on exibition at tho Press
office. Mr. Brown farmed in Mc-
Lennan County until last Decem-
ber when he moved out hero.
Last year he said he only made
7 bales of cotton on 115 acres of
land in McLennan County. The
altitude of this section however
is too high for the boll wevils to
invade and no fear is entertained
as to any future danger resulting
from their invasion.

Committee Representing San Angelo Visits Galveston
Confers With the Santa Fc Management Convinces

the Commission Grants San Angelo a Common
Point Rate.
San Angelo continues to make
progress Not only do we of the
city see these great evidences of
growth and world importance but
the people of other sections and
states are reminded of them
through the medium of their
newspapers
The latest glory added to San
Angelo's commereinl crown is the
order of the ToxaB Railroad Com-
mission extending the common
point territory so that Son An-
gelo's freight rate is the same
as that of Houston Galveston
San Antonio Fort Worth and
DallaB. And this glory is made
more evident by the fact that
every daily paper in the stat- has
commented thereon and in everv
case San Angelo is the better oil
by reason of these commentB.
And the secret of tho whole
matter is this:
San Angelo business meu ever
awako to the interests of the city
at largo realizing that certain
competitive points within the
recently extended common point
territory were using thiu concee-
Bioii aB an advertisement to draw
trade from San Angelo's original
nnd natural territory they con-
ceived the idea and a business-
like one it wob of making an ef-
fort to secure the same concession.
They made their wants known to
the Railroad Commission and
were answered in the flat nega-
tive They attempted to reason
