My mother tucked me up In bed
And govonio stuff to drink-
To bring 'em out I think .she suid
I felt quite sure 'twas Ink.
Slio drew the window curtains tight
ivnu naue me go to sleep;
But when she tiptoed olT so light
The tilings began to creep.
The Mower-figure on the wall
Turned spiders and old men.
I tried to count Ym: but they'd crawl
And make mo count again.
The nursery ceiling up so high
Slowly began to sink
And then a big red burning eve
Came out to glare and blink.
And after tliut a bulging pig
I don't see how he came
Tried on my pillow for a wig
And called mo a bad name.
Then suddenly in every nook
Were voices whispering fast.
I hid my face; I dared not look
Till they had drifted past.
And then the green book winked at mo
Imploring to ho read.
I just pretended not to see
And took the blue Instead.
Next all the walls came slanting down
To eateli and crush mo Mat
While something sobbed all soft and
hi own
A pitying piusy-cut!
I called: my oleo was faint uml queer
Vet mamma heard and ran-
k's strange mamma can always hear
When no one thluks she can!
She drove some grinning apes away
And laid mo in her lap "
The room grew still and cool and gray
And then I took a nap.

There are ninny pretty thingB

iiiuny lovable things but the most
lovable of nil in the eves of ninny

One of the prettiest and most
appropriate souvenirs ever pre-
sented to a body of men is that
hearing the compliments of the
Cotton Belt Route presented to
the Kx-Uonfederates at the recent
re-union. It wasn't much look-
ing at the mutter through u
period ot years yet oil how much
it imiat have been to those old
veterans. It was only u little
hook hut it contained reproduc-
tions in colors of all the captured
Confederate battle-Hags which
have been ''returned to the men
who bore them." The hook is
handsomely printed and the Cot-
ton Belt couldn't have selected
anything for a souvenir which
would have been more highly ap-
preciated by those old "vets"
There is a copy of this hook at
the oflice of T ho Press and any
Kx-Confederute who wants to see
it is welcome to cull and take a
look at it.

which wii9 aflirmed by the Su-

which enters into an "agreement

A bunch of horses woro being
driven through tho streots of San

ceived a most severe cut between

Several San Angelo young peo-
ple will spend the month of Aug-
ust in seeing some more of tho
world than they havo alroady
seen. It is well. Nothing broad-
ens u man's view of life and tho
doings of tho world in general
than travel. Nothing educates a
young man or young woman iib
thoroughly as does travel. It
gives a hotter insight into human
nature. It broadens the scopo of
one's thoughts. It teaches almost
everything. Thoro aro plenty of
men whoso only education in lifo
has boon acquired by hard knocks
iu life's battle by travel obser-
vation and reading. And some
of thorn havo not read much.
Many of those men aro counted
as the greatest successes. Travel
if you can and while you aro
