At YHT Meeting
Thresa Black was elected
Area IV President for the com-
ing year. She also took first
place In Area IV as the out-
standing Young Homemaker of
the Year.
Thresa has been very active
In YHT. She was one of the or-
ganizers of the local chapter
and has served as president and
chairman of many committees.
This past year she was Vice-
President of Area IV.
As well as being a teacher and
homemaker, she Is very active
In church and civic work. Her
enthusiasm has Inspired the
members of the local club.
The Mills County Young
Homemakers will meet for their
regular monthly meeting (to-
night,) Oct. 7, 1971 at ^7:30 pm.
at the high school.
The program will be pre-
sented by Saundra Lengefeld on
Crufts.

October 8-9, 1971. ■ ■
The 197f theme "4-H Bridges the Gup” expresses the thrust
of todays 4-H program a* It helps prepare young people to be-
come better citizens In our changing world.
Four-H Is a part of the educational program of the Texas
Agricultural Extension Service of Texas ARM University. It Is
jRt the local level by County Extension Agents who work
volunteer 4-H adult leaders and other local citizens Inter-
ested In the development of boys and girls.
Texas 4-H member* working with educational leam-by-doing
projects, apply the latest research and scientific. Information to
their work, keeping records, arranging exhibits and giving dem-

tion in 8tephenvillc at the Ro-
bin Room on the campus of
Tarleton State College.
At the morning session, the
first order of business was the
election of officers. Thersa
Black was elected area IV presi-
dent. Members then attended a
salad luncheon and were enter-
tained with a style show pre-
sented by Stephen vtlle High
School and Tarleton College
girls. The style show was enti-
tled "Favorites and Fashions"
from Danas of StephenvHle.
In the afternoon session mem-
bers heard “Tips on Award Ap-
plications” by Mrs. Mary Moore,
ohe of the organizers of YHT
and also a judge of the Texas
entries. Door prizes were won by
Prlss Muse and Mrs. Patty
Johnson.
At 6:30 the Awards Banquet
was held In the Tarleton Cafer-
tla. Speaker for the event was
Marcus Hill of Sulphur Springs.
He Is a former FFA president
and gave a talk on agriculture
and the farmer today.
The next line of business was
the Installation of officers by
Mary Ann Power of Comanche,
out-going Area IV President.
Officers were installed In the
traditional candle light cere-
mony.
Special Awards were the next
event. Thersa Black again took
first place In Area IV for the
outstanding Young Homemaker
of the Year. The Mills County
Chapter won Outstanding
Chapter for Area IV. Members
have worked very hard lor the
past year to win this award. The
club was presented a silver tray
and a check for $75.00 from the
Texas J Farm Electrification
Committee In College Station.
Those attending the conven-
ton and banquet from Mills
County were: Patty Johnson,
Jean Todd, Wanda Allen, Prlss
Muse, Mr. and Mrs. Elam MUSS,
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Leverett, Mr.
and Mrs. Rodney Carlisle, and
Mr. and Mrs. Layton Black.

The visiting Mustangs smelled

off as the ball hit an Eagle play-

Robbins on the Mustangs’ 48
yard line.

voted to grant a television cable
franchise to G. C. Head of
Goldthwalte at Its regular meet-
ing Monday night.
Head, present at the meeting,
stated that he wanted the fran-
chise not necessarily because he

City Manager W. C. Barnett
emphasized the problems of
placing another system on poles
that the city owns, saying that
there were some low lines al-
ready In town. Head said he
would be willing to construct
new poles wherever necessary
and that he was willing to pay
a contact charge to be hooked
up to the city’s present power
poles wherever possible.
The council unanimously vot-
ed to approve the franchise with
the addition of a $2.00 per pole
contact charge, and that any
extraordinary circumstances or
problems can be worked out be-
tween Head and CM Barnett.
CM Barnett made his mostly
report. He stated that street
construction had gone pretty
well according to plan and that
sewer construction was under-
way In several parts of town.
The large river pump owned
by the dty Is undergoing repairs
in Waco. This In no way will
Impair our water supply, Barnett
said, since the city has an am-
ple supply of water In storage.'
Barnett reported that the
Central Texas Council of Gov-
ernments recently received a
$100,000 grant to be used to hire
unemployed persons to do work.
Mills County and Goldthwalte
together received $3500 under
the program. The qty Council
unanimously voted to give their
part of the money to the county
to be recommended for use In
the landscaping project of the
courthouse grounds.
The Council voted to under-
write a pump for the 2-ton fire
truck recently bought by the
County for use In rural fires.
The fire department still has to
complete the truck with a tank,
hoses, reels and various other
equipment.

three pointer early In the fourth
to give Goldthwalte a 9-8 lead.
Then he scored on a five-yard
run and hit Humphries on a
two-point conversion.
The Eagles’ scoring was
rounded out as halroaek Reggie
Robbins took the ball 38 yards
for a TD with only 38 seconds
left In the game. The extra
point bras blocked.
With only five seconds left on
the clock Mustang quarterback
Jones hit Stuart Nannally on a
93 yard TD pass. The PAT was
good, but short of a victory over
the Eagles as the score at the
end of the game stood 23-13.
This win over the Mustangs
brings Goldthwalte's record to
3-1 so far for the season.
