One yardstick used to mea-
sure the nation’s growth aad
health is called the Gross
National Product, or GNP. The
GNP is the combination of all
the goods and services, plus
government expenditures, and
is computed on a quarterly

BUI Blackwell, W.M.
Owen B. Yarborough, Sec,
At the end of 197S. the GNP
stood at nearly 1.5 trillion
dollars. While there have been
some quarter to quarter de-
clines in the GNP, particularly
in periods during the past 18
months, it has shown a steady
growth pattern, indicating a
basically healthy economy.
You may not realize it but
the GNP affects our daily lives,
if our GNP drops off sharply,
this will lead to unemploy-
ment. If the GNP expands too
rapidly, this can lead to
inflation, and inflation to
higher prices. So, you see, the
entire growth pattern ef the
country affects you also.
"Do 1 have to? But. 1 don't
want to. They don’t have to!
Everyone else is doing.....”
This is a child’s reasoning to
defend himself in an argument
with parents.
When we made these state-
ments we thought they were
legitimate excuses and very
sound reasoning. Just because
we thought everyone else was
doing something did not
justify it in our parent's eyes.
We now laugh, or smile, when
we look back or are confronted
with such reasoning. Yet, we
fail to recognize such rea-
soning as we try to justify
ourselves in not doing the
Lord's work. Just because
everyone is doing something
else does not entitle us to do it.
or make it right for us.
“And be not conformed to
this world; but be ye trans-
formed by the renewing of
your mind, that ye may prove
what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will at
God.” (Rom. 12:2)
"The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as
some men count slackness; but
is longsuffering to us-ward,
not willing that any should
perish, but that all should
come to repentance." (II Pet.
3:9). The Lord loved us
enough to give his only
begotten Son for us. With this
great a love for us we must
never neglect our duties as
soldiers for the Lord. Even is
no one else is working or doing
what is right. WE MUST.

When the money changers
were making the Lard's house
into s den of thieves, it would
have been much easier to
conform rather than trans-
form. Christ did not fear
hurting someone’s feelings, he
did not consider a split in the
church, he knew hit duties and
did them. We have these same
duties and must stand on solid
ground when doing the Lord's
wort.
No one can conform to
doctrinal errors, or neglect
their duties and still be
pleasing to God. Ephesians
4:4-6 states that we have but
one Father and only one faith
by which to reach Him. We
cannot conform to this world
and then be pleasing in the
world to come. Christ wants
"all to come in the unity of the
faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God. unto a perfect
man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of
Christ." (Eph. 4:13).
