point buck at 7 a.m. Saturday- The
buck weighed seventy pounds. Mr.
Shipman was accompanied by Sane
Kalka and Craig Runnels, which
was their first deer hunt.

six day deer season as usual
from November 16 through Dec-
ember 31.

The Goldthwaite H jh School
Band under the direction of Nell
Chamberlain, wUl travel to Abi-
lene Saturday to participate in a
Marching Contest. The band will
be competing with about fifty o-
ther bands.
Charles Hardgrave and Bill
Laughlln, members of the Gold-
thwaite High School Band, went
to Stephenville last Saturday where
they tried out for all-district band.
Charles made first chair on the
French Horn and Bill made ele-
venth chair on the clarinet.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Standley of
Madisonville spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Hor-
ton.
F.dwin Bessent was elected pre-
sident for the Priddy FFA Chap-
ter. Other officers were vice-
president, Mike Lucky; secretory,
Glynn Grelle; treasurer, Robert
Priddy; reporter, John Schlee;and
sentinel, Jerry Schwartz.
Mrs. J. B. McCasland and her
daughter, Mrs. Bill Allen of Ha-
milton spent Monday in Waco.
Jack Burns and his mother,
Mrs. Annie Armstrong, spent the
weekend in San Antonio with his
daughter, Mrs. Fayle Rider and
Mr. Rider.
Mr. and Mrs. Neal Rose left
Friday for Gatesville to visit their
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. F. W.
Conrad*., and went on to Beeville
to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ha-
milton over the weekend.

house at the family home Sun-
day, November 25.
The annual county-wide Thanks-
giving Service, sponsored by the
Mills County Ministerial Associ-

day, November 21.

The FFA boys of the Goldth-
waite High School are having a
Pest-Control Contest. The pest
Include crows, owls, hawks, arm-
adillos, rats, etc., are a certain
number of points per foot, ear,
tail or such as it Is.
The Mills County True ifcorts-
men’s Club enjoyed barbecue from
the Eacott’s Barbecue Pit Novem-
ber 8. Jack Saw was elected
president.
The FFA boys of Goldthwaite
and the 4-H Club boys of Mills
County sponsored the buying of a
carload of Registered Southdown
breeding sheep which arrived here
in good condition November 3.
The sheep were imported from
Canada.
Mrs. Frank Bowman visited last
weekend in Hermit with her daugh-
ter, Mrs. John Graves and fam-
ily.
Miss Anna Gene Hale of Mul-
lin has entered the newly organ-
ized Concert Band of Tarleton
College.
Geraldine Laughlln was selected
as the FFA Sweetheart at Gold-
thwaite for the school year. A
party will be given in her honor.
Miss Martalyce Smith, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Barton Smith,
has finished the informal initiation
period and is now an active mem-
ber of Adelphian Literary and So-
cial Club at the Texas State Col-
lege for Women.

There they attended a chill supper.
All four of Goldthwaite’s trains
will arrive and depart between the
hours of 9:39 p.m. and 6:35 a.m.
beginning Sunday.
Miss Ellen Archer was in char-
ge of the School's Patriotic Pro-
gram and M. Y. Stokes, Jr. spoke
on the meaning of Armistice.
Franklin Roosevelt is the next-
president of the United States. His
oppoent, Hoover, got only six sta-
tes.
A new method of bal ing hay, was
demonstrated to Dallas County far-
mers and ag. leaders. The hay is
picked up from the window in the
field and baled at the rate of two
or three bales a minute.
Miss Maurine Anderson and Wi-
llis Green were married at the
home of Rev. J. L. Jones in the
Duren Community Nov. 5.
Jesse Roberts is in Dallas tak-
ing the Stomp-Baxter Music Cou-
rse. He is specializing in play-

The Goldthwaite School board
met Monday night in regular bus-
iness session. At that time Y. E.
Hoover resigned as a member and
T. F. Sansom was elected.
Thomas J. Harrison of South Be-
nnett, will celebrate his birthday at
his home Saturday night. He is one
of the oldest citizens here.

Andy Wells has been a patient
in the hospital at Scott and White
with a crippled foot. At last word
he was doing nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Whatley
were Saturday visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh Nowell.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Cox and Mr.
and Mrs. William Daniel attended
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Stondley’s 50th
Wedding Anniversary Sunday at
their home in Bangs.
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Ratliff had
as their visitors her brother, Wil-
liam Cook of Denton.
Billy Oxford of Killeen spent the
weekend with home folks.
Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Swindle took
Mrs. W. H. Bynum to Pottsville
Saturday to see her sick folks.
Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl
Shipman were Mr. and Mrs. Stone
Shipman.
Mrs. Albert Evans Sr. Is at home
now and doing very well. We wish
all the sick folks a speedy reco-
very.
Allen Hardgrave called at the A.
L. Crawford home Sunday after-
noon.
We were sorrow of Mrs. Oscar
Simpson’s and Mrs. Irk Black’s
death. They were our old time
friends and neighbors. We ex-
press our sorrow to their loved
ones.
DWAIN FERGUSON GETS
10 POINT BUCK SATURDAY
Dwain Ferguson killed a ten point
buck Saturday afternoon after 5
p.m. on the Ira Lethco Ranch, loca-
ted ten miles on Ridge Farm Mar-
ket road.
The deer field dressed 130 lbs.

Services were heldfor Mrs.Wil-
lie Lee Lang of Beeville Saturday,
November 18, 1972, at 2 p.m. In
Wilkins Funeral Chapel. Rev.(Jor-
dan Talk officiated with Wilkins
Funeral Home in charge of ar-
rangements. Interment was In the
Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Lang passed away In Bee-
vtlle, Thursday. November 16,
1972, at 8:30 p.m.
She was bom October 22, 1894,
In Mills County to James Rahl and
Minnie Adelaide Rahl. On Sept-
ember 26, 1920, she married Char-
les H. Lang and later moved to
Beeville from Goldthwaite. Tie
was a member of the Methodist
Church.
Pallbearers were John Patter-
son, Clyde Cockrum, Julian Evans,
Dr. T. C. Graves, Marvin Laugh-
lln and Homer Doggett.
Survivors include her daughter,
Mrs. Frances Long of Corpus Ch-
rist!; one brother, C. P. Rahl of
Goldthwaite; four grandchildren
and one great grandchild.

We have lots of deer hunters
In and around Mullin. I hope
they are ml) having good luck,
but so far I haven’t heard of any
one killing any deer. My little
grandson asked his daddy on re-
turn from a deer hunt if he kil-
led 'nothing'. His dad said, ‘Yes,
I killed nothing*.
Mrs. Dew Shelton is still in the
Methodist Hospital in Houston, but
she Is doing nicely after surgery.
She hopes to come home Friday of
this week.
Mr. E. L. Fisher made a trip
to Jackson, Mississippi recently
where he attended a trainer Post
Master Seminar. He along wtth
other postmasters In this district
were there to do observation work
with plans to set up a training
Seminar in Texas.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Dele
Mot tor and family are her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Berry and also
her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Leo-
nard Barry and family all of Mod-
esto, California.
