(Dorothy) Smith for her splendid guidance as chairman
for the Little League Park Concession Stand during our
summer baseball program.
While space will not permit naming each individual
assisting Mrs. Smith in this undertaking, all Mothers of
the Little League members must be commended for their
unwavering support to this program.
We, the Jaycees, baseball managers, and all players,
say a Big Thangs to all coneerned who gave freely of their

A contract for .05 mile of con-
struction on U. 8. 84 in Mills
County has been awarded to a
Fredericksburg firm, it was an-
nounced in Austin this week by
the State Highway Commission.
Jack Earl Long has been
elected the Commander of Har-
ry F. Edmondson Post. American
Legion, In Goldthwaite for the
new year.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archer
of Bentonvllle, Arkansas, an-
nounce the engagement-of their
daughter. Linda Kay, to John
Blocker Jr., of Miami, Florida.
Linda is the granddaughter of
MrS. M. E. Archer and of Mr.
Frank Dennis of this city.

the Courthouse here last Sunday
afternoon, Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post No. 4377 was organ-
ized, with a membership of 41
enrolled In the Initial turnout.
Six more members were Initiat-
ed at a called meeting held

Mrs. Frances Fletcher and
Miss Bess Crews have everything

Miss Billy Jim Page, whb has
been attending the University
at^Houston, arrived Sunday to
spend between terms with her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.
C. Faulkner and Mrs. Kate Page.
Sgt William .L. Covington and
Pfc. Carl H. Covington, brothers
and sons of Mr. and Mrs.) John
L. Covington of Lometa, met on
Okinawa on the 4th of July, the
first time the brothers had seen
each other in about 14 months.
Mrs. Floyd Blair, manager of
Piggly Wiggly Store here, had
the thrill of talking to her hus-
band, Corporal Floyd* Blair,
Tuesday afternoon from Straf-
ford, England, about 40 miles
from Birmingham. This was the
first time that a call from Eng-
land has come to the local tele-
phone office.

of Ooldthwaite announce the
marriage of their daughter, Miss
Johnnie Lee Kattes, to S/Bgt.

Miss Oulda Gray returned to
Austin Wednesday where she

Austin came over Sunday and
remained a part of Monday with
relatives here. They were guests
in the home of Ernest Jarrett
and Mrs. Philips’ mother, Mrs.
Levell. who was visiting In the
Jarrett home, accompanied
them to Austin for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Billings and
daughter, Jeannette,. and Mr.
and Mrs. Saunders of Fort
Worth spent the weekend with
Wm. Guynes and wife at Rock
Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rahl went
over to Hillsboro Friday and
brought home with them Mrs.
Rahl’s father, Mr. J. F. Wright,
who has been In 111 health for
some time.
J. F. Petslck and family of
Winchell visited relatives over
the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. R D. Williams of
Tuscola have returned to their
home, after a visit with her
mother, Mrs. J. H. Wilson, and

The barbecue supper honoring
C. H. Black on his birthday at
the home of his mother last Sat-
urday evening drew a large
crowd. Friends and relatives
came from all around bringing
with them well filled baskets of
food.
Mrs. Barney Laughlin is In
Gatesville with her mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Johnson
who have been our neighbors for
many years, moved last week to
their home In Goldthwaite.
Mr. and Mrs W. McDongal of
Austin were guests last week of
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Laughlin.
Mr. and Mrs Huntls Black,
teachers In Giddlngs School,
were weekend guests of their
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Winifred
Sheldon of Star and Mr. and
Mrs. C. H. Black of Scallora.
Their youpg son. Chance, Is
happy, because, as he said, .“111
be In real school this year.”

brated her birthday with a tur-
key dinner and all the trim-
mings. It was a very happy oc-
casion.

D. C. Ivy of Prlddy, G. G. Ivy of
Dallas, Knox Coffee, Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Ivy of Lampasas, and
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ivy of
Brownwood.

Mrs. Weldon Ivy, Pearl Craw-
ford, Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Reid,
and Mrs. Alford Brown.
We all wish her many, many

pital. Hla health remains the

were Monday visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. W. N. Swindle. Mrs. Swin-
dle served ice cream,-which was
enjoyed.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nowell,
Mark, Matthew, Mary and
Mickle have enjoyed a long and
happy vacation. They visited
their parents and grandparents.

Avon Park, Florida. Also visited
relatives and friends in Tennes-
see! They were happy, to get

Mary a birthday cake ready.
They enjoyed a birthday party
under a big live oak tree.
