Miss Rebecca Berry, bride-
elect of Bruce McKenzie was
honored with a gift tea Satur-
day afternoon, May 20, at the
First Baptist Church Banquet
Room
Receiving the guests with the
bride-elect were Mrs. Floyd Mc-
Kenzie and Mrs. Jack McKenzie,
mother and aunt of the pro-
spective groom, and the pro-
spective bride's mother and
grandmother. Mrs. J. D. Berry
and Mrs. O. B. Bell.
The serving table, laid with a
white and yellow linen cloth,
was centered with an arrange-
ment of yellow and white dai-
sies and snapdragons Punch
and cookies were served by Miss
Amy Page and Miss Evelyn
Standley. Miss Roberta Child-
ress registered the guests.
The prospective bride received
a number of useful gifts. Hos-
tesses for the occasion were

Another happy memorial
weekend was spent on the Co-
lorado river at the Bob John-
son’s “Hoot and Hollow" Camp.
Friends and relatives began
to gather on Friday and stayed
until Monday. A few even stay-
ed over for the following week-
end.

Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Swindle
and family of Pasadena were
visitors of Mr. and Mrs. W. W.

Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Harris and
Warren spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lewis Har-

They also attended the gradua-
tion exercises of their grand-

Winters attended the Hill Re-
union. They visited with Miss
Lola Stevens and other friends
and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Nowell
visited Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Por-
ter Sunday.
Ray Evans of San Angelo
spent the holiday with Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Evans and Junior.
We received the news that
Mrs. O. H. Ratliff had passed
away at an Austin hospital. She
was the mother of W. W. Rat-
liff. We express our sympathy
to her loved ones.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Harris of
Pallas were Monday dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. William
Daniel.
Mrs. C. V. Whatley visited her
mother, Mrs. Bertie White. She
also visited with Mrs. Ollie
Manuel. Both were doing nicely.
Albert Hill of Winters became
very 111 at the Hill family re-
union Sunday. He was admitted
to the local hospital. Wa all
wish him a speedy recovery.

Stephan household has enjoyed
the company of their daughter,
Mrs. Fred Faust of Kansas City,
Mo., and her daughter Mrs.
John Pilnk and 20 month old
son, Jason. Also visiting in the
Stephan home were Mary Pilnk
of Pasadena, Maryland, Charles
Van Stephan, Fort Worth and
Ola Howell dnd Mrs. Vela Boo-
ker of Lampasas. The Stephan
clan were guests In the Vance
Booker home In Lampasas one
day this past week.
Visitors In the Gilbreath
home Saturday were Josie
Kemp, Mrs. Eunice Knowls.
Sherri and Michelle Hartley.
We have five young ladles
from Star taking drivers educa-
tion In Goldthwaite. They are
Carol Head, Mitzi Gilbreath,
Karon Horton, Michelle Hartley,
and Gerry Whitlock.

Community News From Mullin

One of th« largest crowda I've home town, an<£»I told him
seen In Mullin attended the De-
dication Services here Sunday
for the new Baptist Church.
They were here from aeveral
different states. California was
represented by two or three
people, Oklahoma, New Mexico.
Arkansas and other states were
also represented. Also, five ‘“has
been” preachers, as they called
themselves, were also present.
They were, Henry Garber, Mor-
gan Beach, James Hagan, Don
Long and Chester Sylvester.
Each one of them had a part
on the program. I started In at
9:30 at the Methodist Church.
I heard a good sermon there. I
attended both the services
(morning and afternoon) at the
Baptist Church and heard three
more good sermons and I en-
joyed ever minute of each one.
The music was pretty and all In
all It was a very nice affair. I’m
proud for the members of the
Church In Mullin. They are to
be commended for their efforts.

posed to tell the truth. If he had
been here this past weekend I
could have told him “Mullin was
on the boom". It really was. ,

A one day seminar on “Im-
provement of Management Tec-
hniques" tor Administrators
and Supervisors from hospitals
and nursing homes In the WC-
TC area was conducted at the
Tarleton Center aU day Satur-
day, May 20.
James Reese, business admin-
istrator for the Childress Clinic
and Hospital in Ooldthwalte at-
tended the seminar along with
personal from Btephenvllle, Hl-
co, DubUn, and Granbury. Dr.
J. C. Terrell, Sr , attended as a
physician guest.
Mr. Dick Meehan, Director of
Management at St. Paul Hospi-
tal, Dallas, Texas waa the par-
ticipating faculty. His previous
experience includes ten years
with Texas Instruments In a-
reas of Supervision, Personnel
Development, and National and
International training, which
Included tours of dgty in Cura-
cao, N. A., and Singapore. Six
years as an Instructor and Con-
sultant for the DaBas - County
Community CoUege District,
Community Service Division In
the development of Manage-
ment Programs. r

Long Beach, California; Mr. and
Mrs. Wesley Cobb (Arlene Her-
rington), Mrs. Barney Herring-
ton and her daughter and hus-
band of San Angelo; Mr. and
Mrs. Rex Herrington of Bryan;
Mrs. Ella Dale Crockett of O-
dessa; Burnet Ivy and son of
Fort Worth; and Mrs. Oeorge
Golightly of Hamilton. Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Wortman will re-
main over for the 1915 class
meeting June 4 (this weekend).
Visitors over the weekend In
the Will Sanders home were Mr.
and Mrs. J. P. Sanders, Mrs,
Ray Garren, all of San Antonio;
Mrs. Albert Jenke, Mr. and Mrs
Sammy Jenke, Laura and Mac-
ky Lynn, all of Austin; Mr. and
Mrs. BUI Sanders and Glendcn
of 8tar; and Roger, Peggy, Amy,
Glynn and Oreta, all of Mullin.
The school homecoming at
the school house was also a big
thing Saturday night. A large
crowd was present and they had
a good supper. 1 wasn’t present,
but from what I’ve heard I
should have gone. The Crosby
Brothers (four of them) did the
entertaining and the response
was good. Mr. Whisenhunt gave
the welcome address and Lt.
Col. Charles U tarn an of Ft. Hood
gave the response and made a
nice talk Mrs. Charlene Mosier
gave the memorial.
LA. Col. Charles Utzman was
elected president for next year
and June (Hodges) Roberts
waa elected secretary-treasure!
They will meet at the same time
next year, but they do not plan
to have a covered dish supper.
As I’ve written this letter this
time, I’ve been reminded of the
late Mr. Walter Barker. One
8unday afternoon Artie Moeler
and I visited Nursing Home
where he was staying in Qold-
thwatte He, along with some
other men, were sitting outside
As I passed him (several steps
ahead of Artie), he asked me
how MulMn waS, I said “Dead’".
When the earns along he asked
Her the same question and she
aald "On the boom". He got a

they were so different. She told
him she thoaght you were al-
