LOCAL ARTISTS
The packed house that greet-
ed Shiner in Revue Wednesday,
June 29 at 8:00 p.m. in the High
School gym, surely were re-
warded with a colorful and
novelty entertainment sponsor-
ed by the Gypsy Patrol Troop 5
of Girl Scouts.
Mrs. Ruth Riske proved a
most versatile announcer for the
supposedly radio and TV broad-
cast. Mrs. James Buske was the
talent scout and many marveled
at the great amount of local
talent available in Shiner.
Herb Wendel’s Orchestra,
Benedict Kocian, drummer;
Herb, bass fiddle; Walter Paul,
piano; Arlen Tieken and Her-
bert Karnau, trumpets; Bob
Taylor, baritone, played a pre-
curtain program and were well
received throughout the eve-
ning as they appeared in various
numbers.
Mrs Ella E. Lane, President
of the Scout Council, spoke a
three-minute welcome on behalf
of the Gypsy Patrol. A group
of Cub Scouts and some pals in
Davy Crockett regalia gave the
ever popular Davy song hit. The
Cubs included Donnie Zander,
Ronnie Pfeil, Bobby Buske,
John Dierksen, Edgar Bohman,
Carlton Blohm, Butch Ward,
John Williford, Donald Lahod-
ny, Edward Neubauer, David
Sterling, Charles Welhausen,
and Donald Boehm.
Sue Turk presented her group
of twirlers in costume in twirl-
ing and tap dance. Participating
were Sandra Jo Ward, Irene
Claire Buske, Kay Lynn Wol-
ters, Evelyn Marie Stratman
and Marjorie Bohman.
Dainty, petite Peggy Herder
tap danced the “Chicken Reel.”
Mrs. Isabel Thulemeyer’s ac-
cordion group, Jonnie Bee Bed-
nar, Calvin Bruns, Angeline
Svatek and Betty Jean Winken-
werder were pleasing.
Attractive little Miss Suzanne
Riske was charming in her song
hit.
Piano numbers were given by
Irene Claire Buske, Sandra
Ward.
Among the grown-ups in
specialty numbers were a male
quartet composed of Arthur
and Don Kasper, Arthur Ward
and Walter Breitkreutz, follow-
ed by a novelty quartet of in-
struments played by Basil, Bob,
Herb and Blackie.
Brenda Rast gave a “talking”
impersonation. Several solos and
duos were given by Gayle Wel-
hausen, Gloria Buenteo, Teresa
Brewer, Delores Glatzert, San-
dra Ward, Marjorie Bohman,
Evelyn Stratman.
A novelty dance went over
big as “stepped” off by Walter
Paul Jr., Janice Werner, Bar-
bara Turek, Billy Gene Goetz,
Barbara Henkhaus, Arlen Tie-
ken, Rose Ann Kubecka and
Tommy See.
Margaret Mann and adorable
daughter of Yoakum contribut-
ed October Black Cats and Ves-
ta Lee Simek gave the Football
Twirl and tap.
Eighteen Brownies, in uni-
form, sang “Let The Sun Shine
In,” they were Suzanne Riske,
Kay Lynn Wolters, Ruby
Noack, Shirley and Bernice
Renken, Elaine Laas, Iris Ben-
der, Joan Wehman, Sandra
Koenning, Karen Boehm, Vale-
ria Sembera, Carolyn Zimmer-
mann, Bobbie Sue Sterling,
Glenda Barre, Peggy Herder,
Bonnie Rae Buesing, Linda
Kruse, Leah Seale.
Master Howard Gloor was
clever in a military number.
The Gypsy Patrol in uniform
gave two scout choruses. The
singers were Irene Claire Bus-
ke, Mary Bell, Gloria Bender,
Marilyn Harbers, Gloria Buen-
teo, Delores Zimmermann, Judy
Littlefield, Alice Faye Renken,
Carole Welhausen, Adella Jua-
rez, Jeanette Gerum, Marcella
Schneider.
The square dance
claimed the enthusiastic ac-
claim of the audience. The dan-
cers were James and Hertha
Buske, Arthur and Lillian Ward,
Max and Evelyn Wolters, Fran-
ces Welhausen, Max Voskamp,
Mrs. Jean Kasper was the call-
er.
Leaders assisting Mrs. Buske
and Mrs. Riske included Mmes.
Delmar Laas, Bob Sterling, Vic-
tor DeHarde, George Herder, C.
Renken, V. Bender, E. Schnei-
der, E. A. Ross and Mrs. Max
Wolters, counselor.
Mrs. Edwin Gehrels was the
excellent accompanist for the
evening.
