Graveside services for Hal W.
(Mac) McCelvey, 85, Springdale,
AR, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday,
Nov. 17, in the City of Levelland
Cemetery. Rev. Lance May, pastor,
First Presbyterian Church will
officiate.
Burial followed under the di-
rection of Geo. C. Price Funeral
Directors.
He died on Monday, Nov. 13,
2000 in Fayetteville, AR.
He was bom on Oct. 15, 1922
in Vernon, TX. He was married to
Ann Witte in 1937. She died in
1969. He later married Polly West
in 1972 in Clovis, NM. He lived in
Levelland during the early 1950's.
While in Levelland he owned and
operated McCelvey’s Fashion Fab-
rics and the Tiny Tot Shop. He
moved to Tucumcari, NM, and then
to Clovis in 1968. He then moved
to Arkansas in 1975. He was pre-
ceded in death by his parents and
three brothers.
He was a member of First
Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife,
Polly McCelvey of Springdale, AR;
two daughters and their husbands,
Eleanor and Joel VanZandt of
Levelland, TX, Barbara Spurgeon
and Marvin Huffaker of Mountain
Home, AR; a step-daughter and her
husband, Paula and Les Garrett of
Springdale, AR; a step-son, Larry
West of Florida; five grandchildren,
Shanda Weber, Perry VanZandt,
Amy Hochaid, LaShay VanZandt,
and Brandon Hudson; and five
great-grandsons.
Tne family suggests memorials
to services for the blind or visually
impaired.

for Syble I. Thornton
Funeral services for Syble Inez
Thornton, 84, of Levelland will be
held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.
16, at College Ave. Baptist Church.
Bobby James will officiate the
services.
Interment will be in the City of
Levelland Cemetery under the di-
rection of Head Family Funeral
Home.
She died on Tuesday, Nov. 14,
2000 at Covenant Hospital,
Levelland.
She was bom Jan. 17, 1916 in
Gunerterville, AL. She married
Newell Thomas Thornton in
Lubbock County in 1933. He
preceded,her in death in 1991.
She was a lifelong Texan. She
had lived in Levelland since 1928,
moving from Commerce, TX. She
was a Sunday school teacher at a
nursing home in Levelland for 24
years since the late 1940's. She was
awarded for bringing the most peo-
ple to church. President of the
WMA’s until she retired and be-
came a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, husband, Newell
Thomas Thornton in 1991; one son,
Jerry Wayne Thornton in 1948; a
daughter, Nina Ruth King inn 1991;
two brothers, Wayne Davis and
Edgar Davis; and sister Dorothy
Davis.
She is survived by three daugh-
ters, Laquita Juanita Stephens of
Mira Loma, CA, Margaret Ann
Emmons of Lubbock, TX, Doris
Helen Sims of Bronte, TX; three
sons, Kenneth Royce Thornton of
Lubbock, TX, Elvis Lee Thornton
of El Sobrante, CA, and Thomas
Gene Thornton of Plain view, TX;
three brothers, Joe Davis, Wes Da-
vis, Tiny Davis; two sisters, Anita
Davis Glass and Melba (Skeet)
Mayfield; 12 grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren; two great-
great-grandchildren.

Country Jukebox, a televised
half-hour country music show
produced by South Plains College,
will have its next performance
Thursday (Nov. 16).
Concert time is 11:30 a.m. in
the Tom T. Hall Performance Cen-
ter in the Creative Arts Building.
The show will feature hits made
famous by Merle Haggard, Patsy
Cline, Sylvia and Crystal Gayle and
will be broadcast live on SPC-TV,
Charter Cable 10 to viewers in
Levelland, Littlefield, Brownfield
and Morton.
The show features student tal-
ent in the commercial music
program and is produced with the
technical support of students in the
performing arts technology and
sound technology programs.
