There is hope out there when it looks like all hope is gone
by Pastor Eddie Trice
South Plains Church
Have you ever felt like you’ve
hit the bottom and it looks like there
is no way?
Many of you may feel like you
are in a storm that’s going to de-
stroy you. Things may look dark
and gloomy for you today. Every-
thing may seem wrong and you may
feel that there is no hope.
You can face the storm and not
be afraid, because God is going to
pull you through.
Praise God! My feet are shod
with the preparation of the Good
News for you — there is hope. My
brother and sister you can and will
be delivered. God will rescue you
from the storms of life. Remember
that which is made by the Word is
subject to the Word, so wake-up the
Word of God within you and speak
it by faith. For faith is what moves
God. You can face the storm and
not be afraid, because God is going
to pull you through.
“And straightway Jesus con-
strained his disciples to get into a
ship, and to go before him unto the
other side, while he sent the multi-
tudes away. And when he had sent
the multitudes away, he went up
into a mountain apart to pray; and
when the evening was come, he was
there alone. But the ship was now
in the midst of the sea, tossed with
waves; for the wind was contrary.
And in the fourth watch of the
night, Jesus went unto them, walk-
ing on the sea. And when the dis-
ciples saw him walking on the sea,
they were troubled, saying, it is a
spirit (phantom, ghost): and they
cried (screamed ) out for fear. But
straightway Jesus spake unto them

Minister, wnwem tuoy
saying, Be of good cheer; it is 1; be
not afraid,” (Matthew 14:22-27).
The Moffatt translation of Matthew
14:22 reads, “Then he made the
disciples...” Jesus knew what was
ahead of them. He knew that these
disciples as well as His disciples of
the 1990's would need to recognize
Him in the storms of life.
His disciples recognized Him
as “Miracle-worker, friend of sin-
ners, the man who turned loaves
and fish into miracle food. They
even recognized Him as “The
Christ, the very Son of God.” They
knew He had power over all the
works of the devil and they knew
him as a teacher. These disciples
who knew Jesus best could not
recognize Him when the storm hit.
Folks, 1 believe this is the root
to most of our trouble today. We
believe Jesus for our salvation, for
the forgiveness of our sins, we trust
Him for miracles, we look to Him
as our source; but when a sudden
storm hits and it looks like every-
thing is going to fall apart, we find
it hard to see Jesus anywhere near.
The truth is most of the time Jesus
will get the blame for the storm
when all He wants to do is calm the
waves and stop the winds.
Jesus can calm the storm that
looks like it is about to swallow
you!
According to Matthew 14:16,
the disciples did not recognize Je-
sus in the storm. They saw a ghost
instead. The thought of Jesus being
so near, so much a part of what they
were going through never unattired
their minds.
Matthew 14:25 says, that Jesus
came to the disciples in the fourth
watch (between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.)
