Holiday Help,
Year 'Round Aid
CURED
An automatic dishwasher at
thia time of the year is a spec-
ial blessing for cleaning-up
fragile cut glasses and large,
hard-to-handle items as well as
large quantities of dishes.
There are only a few simple
rules to follow when washing
fine china and glassware in
your dishwasher, advise Hot-
point economists.
Place bowls in the comers of
the washer or over the vertical
multi-fingers. Bowls should be
at an angle, facing down for
proper drainage. Glasses may
go anywhere in the upper rack,
never in the lower one.
Be sure glasses do not touch
.each other, and cannot be dis-
lodged. The glass’ entire rim
should rest on the rack. Make
certain all items clear the top
of the tub. Pull the racks gent-
ly to prevent glasses from
tipping.
Know your china well before
washing. In most good china,
patterns are protected by an
overglaze to prevent fading
even at high temperatures and
use of detergents.
Hand painted china, china
with metal trim, and decora-
tions that have been applied
after the glaze has been fired
are vulnerable to high water
temperatures and detergent so-
lutions, and should be care-
fully washed by hand in mild
suds.
