SPC Fine Arts Department
presenting two concerts
South Plains College’s Fine
Arts Department will present
groups of talented musicians and
vocalists during two concerts
scheduled this week.
At 3 p.m Sunday the SPC
Brass Ensembles and Choir in
concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the
Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The SPC Choir, directed by
Jon Johnson, professor of music
and chairman of the Fine Arts
Department, will perform a wide
variety of works. Included in the
concert will be two sacred choral
works from the 16th century and
two pieces by American composer
Randall Thompson on poems by
Robert Frost.
Also, the choir will perform
two works for the Christmas
season. “In the Bleak Midwinter”
by Crawford Thobum and
“Christmas Day” by Gustav Holst,
a medley of several Christmas
carols.
The Brass Quintet will perform
“Rondeau,” by Mouret, the theme
from “Masterpiece Theatre” and
“Die Bankelsangerlieder.”
The Low Brass Choir will
perform “Sonata” by Spear and
“English Madrigal Suite.”
Also, the Brass Choir will play
a Moravian brass choir piece,
“Sacred Suite,” “Overture for
Brass” and “Once in Royal David
City,” a Christmas carol.
The Brass Ensembles are
directed by Dr. Bruce Keeling,
professor of music.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, SPC
Jazz and Symphonic Bands will
present a concert in the Theatre for
the Performing Arts.
The Symphonic Band, under
the direction of Lynda Reid,
associate professor ox music, will
present “Commando March” by
Samuel Barber, “Amazing Grace”
arranged by Frank Ticheli, “Slava”
by Leonard Bernstein and
“Valdres” by Johannes Hansen.
Additionally, the Jazz Band,
directed by Dr. Bruce Keeling,
professor of music, will present
“Full Count, The Full Ahead
Swing Chart,” “Cute,” and “Big
Noise from Winetka,” a Big Band
hit from 1940.
The flute ensemble, directed
by Gail Smith, will also be featured
at the concert.

Scott Fitzherbert. a '96 graduate
of Lcvclland High, will receive a
degree from Southwest Texas State
this December
Fitzherbert has earned a
bachelors of arts in advertising with
a minor in business. He's currently
employed by GSD&M Advertising
in Austin
While at SWT. Fitzherbert was
a member of the defending world
champion Students In Free
Enterprise team He was also a
committee chairman in the second
largest collegiate advertising
organization in the nation, and was
selected by that organization to
attend the American Advertising
Federation's National Convention
to accept an award on behalf of the
university.
Fitzherbert was also an active
member of Tau Kappa Epsilon

New Student Orientation for who have not yet taken the skills

Orientation on the Levelland
campus is required of all entering
full-time students and transfer
students who have fewer than 30
semester hours or who are
admitted on a probationary basis.
The Texas Academic Skills
Program (TASP) exam is also
required of all entering students
unless otherwise exempt. Students
