SJHS teams beat
Plains in opener
The Sundown seventh and
eighth grade football teams enjoyed
victories on Thursday, Sept. 21, as

they began their season.
The seventh grade team
blanked Plains 34-0.
Cutter Knox opened the game
with a S3 yard scoring run in the
first quarter.
In the second quarter, Shannon
Sehon ran 15 yards to set up a one
yard scoring run by Brett McDaniel.
The two-point conversion was suc-
cessful with a quarterback keeper
by Creighton Henderson.
An additional one yard run by
Brett McDaniel improved
Sundown’s lead to 20-0 by the half.
Knox sprinted 62 yards off the
option in the third quarter for a 26-0
game.
Joe Garcia had an interception
in the quarter to stop Plains drive.
A blocked punt by Henderson
in the fourth quarter set up a final
scoring drive by Sundown.
McDaniel capped the game with a
one yard sprint. Knox scored the
two-point conversion.
The defensive shutout was led
by Robert Box with numerous
tackles.
The seventh grade team hosted
Bovina this past Thursday.
The eighth grade Roughnecks
pulled out a nail bitter over Plains,
14-12 to begin their season.
There was no scoring in the
first quarter with good defensive
efforts on both sides of the ball.
Plains scored in the second
quarter for a 6-0 lead at the break.
Tyler Van Bebber had a 20
yardjpass reception.
The third quartet was another
defensive struggle.
Sundown began the fourth
quarter with a bootleg pass play
from Mathew Carney to Makenzie
Franklin for 45 yards. Carney added
the two-point conversion.
Plains answered with a TD to
make the score 12-8 in their favor.
A key fumble recovery by
Justin Garza set up a 35 yard run
off the reverse by Craig Hopper.
Garza iced the victory with an
interception with eight seconds left
on die clock.
Garza led the Roughneck
defense in tackles, the offense in
rushing, had an intercepted
recovered a fumble, and completed
one pass for 20 yards on a fake
punt.
The eighth grade team hosted
Bovina this past Thursday.

The Sundown Junior Varsity
Roughnecks improved their overall
record to 2-1 after beating Plains,
30-22.
Plains jumped on Sundown
early and led 14-0 at the break.
The Roughnecks made some
adjustments during the break and
came out in the second half and
took control of the game.
Mario Gomez caught a 55 yard
pass from Robbie Snead in the third
quarter for the score. Jason Torres
added the extra point as Sundown
began to chip away at Plains.
Santos Gonzales and Ransley
Cooper broke through the line and
tackled the Plains runner for loss of
yards resulting in a safety. The
score was now 14-10, Plains.
Corry Kelton returned the kick-
off all the way for the touchdown.
Stephen Quintana caught a pass
from Robbie Snead for the two-
point conversion putting Sundown
on top 18-14.
The scoring sequence for the
Roughnecks took place all within a
minute’s time.
Sundown continued to improve
through the final stanza. Ransley
Cooper scored on a 35 yard run.
Plains came back with a TD for
a close 24-22 Sundown lead.
Tanner Baggett put the game
away when he scored on the next
Sundown possession for the 30-22
final.
Jeffrey Perez played well offen-
sively and defensively. Juan Beltran
intercepted a Plains pass.
The Junior Varsity Roughnecks
took on Bovina this past week on
the road. They will host Sudan on
Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.

Lobo Shootout set
for this weekend
Rholambda will be hosting the
first annual Lobo Shootout on Sat-
urday, Oct. 7, at the Levelland High
School gymnasium.
The shootout will consist of
two divisions,' varsity and junior
varsity. They will compete in pool
play and for third place and
championship titles.
Games will be set up on two
20-minute running halves. A regu-
lar clock will run the final two min-
utes. The tournament will use
SBOA officials.
Rholambda Sorority is a local
women’s organization that raises
money for an annual scholarship
given to a deserving graduate of'
Levelland High School. They adopt
a family each Christmas providing
gifts, food, and everything to make
a needy family’s holiday a little
merrier. By hosting the tournament
and providing a concession stand,
the money raised will help towards
these Sorority projects.

A short course in Introduction
to Computers and Windows 98
begins Monday (Oct 9) at South
Plains College in Levelland.
The two-week class will cover
the basics of computing, operating
systems, Windows 98, hardware
and software. Students will learn
how to turn on and log onto the
computer, navigate the system, use
accessories, execute programs and
manage the file system.
The course includes a brief
introduction the MS Office Suite
software: MS Word, Excel,
Powerpoint and Access.
Classes will meet 7-9:30 p.m.
