SHS offense effective in scrimmage, season begins Friday
The Sundown Roughnecks
moved the ball effectively against
the Sudan Hornets in scrimmage
action last Friday.
“I was really pleased with
everything.” said Coach Benny
Granger about the Roughnecks.
Sundown moved the ball up
and down the field and stalled close
to the endzone during the first se-
ries of plays. Sudan took advantage
of this and came up with a score on
a reverse play during their 15
downs.
Sundown’s second group was
much stronger than the Hornets.

“We are going to have to concen-
trate on containing them. They are
very talented.”
Dimmitt’s enrollment is much
bigger than Sundown’s. The game
will be a real challenge for the
Roughnecks.
Size-wise, both teams match up
fairly evenly.
Dimmitt will throw quite a bit
out of their balanced attack. “1 think
they will have to throw against us.”
Sundown’s running game is
strong, according to Granger. The
Roughnecks will try to develop a
balanced attack.
“They will bring a lot of people
up on the line. We need to do some
things to gain the advantage,”
Granger remarked.
Quarterback Clay Edwards is
throwing the ball well. If the
Roughnecks can establish the
running game then they will put the
ball into the air to Imp the oppos-
ing defense honest.
The Roughnecks are in
shape going into the opener.
Herrera sprained an ankle in the
scrimmage but he will be alright.
The attitude of the Roughneck
camp is great “The kids are work-
ing hard. I feel we have a chance to
win!”

“This will be a good test for
us,” said Coach Desmond Ayala.
“They are a 2A school. We are
going to have to get out and play
hard.”
Olton is bigger than Smyer.
They are not much quicker. They
also have the depth to keep fresh
players in the game.
“We are going to try and keep
the mistakes to a minimum,” said
Ayala. “We need to get some key
blocks and get a good angle (on
them).”
The Bobcats effort is good.
They are anxious to begin the sea-
