Caprock offense will keep ball in the air, Friday
The football will be seen in the quarterback. He is a 51", 165 lb.
air quite a bit this coming Friday
night at Lobo Stadium when the
Level land Lobos host the Amarillo
Caprapk Longhorns. This is the
season opener for the Lobos as well
as the Homecoming game.
“Caprock runs the ball very
little,” explained Lobo head coach
Tom Ramsey. “They throw 90% of
the time. They are capable of mak-
ing the big plays.”
Caprock threw the ball for over
200 yards against Canyon last
weekend in their season opener.
The Eagles crushed Caprock on the
scoreboard however, 41-6.
Caprock is not as big as they
have been in the past They are
sitting at 200 lb. average on the
line. They are a quick team but do
not have a lot of speed.
The Longhorns like to use a
one bock in their wide open of-
fense.
The 4/3 defense blitzes a lot
Caprock hands the boll off to
or Jay Fields and junior

junior Jay Fields and junior Josh
Cordell. They are both fairly quick
secondary
Overall, the Longhorns are
Tanner Craven is the Longhorn taller than the Lobos. This may be
an advantage of the ball is thrown
high.
Levelland will key in on Fields
and try to stop him.
The Lobos are in good health
going into the season opener. Cen-
ter Joseph Hutchinson should be
back on the playing field after an
injury in last week's scrimmage.
Daniel Roberson is still question-
able and Craig Downs was back at
workouts. John Barker is still on the
sidelines with a knee injury.
Levelland has a good crew of
players. “They know what they
want,” said Ramsey.
The Lobo offensive line is
looking better than they were last
year at this time. The line consists
of Josh McDaniel and Scotty
Mitchell at tackles, Michael Gipson
and Paul Zamora at guards, Jon
Colder at tight end, and Joseph
Hutchinson at center.
Josh Yearwood will be the
quarterback. He will throw to CJ
Queen and Terry Bryant The full
back is Darin Kauffman. The run-
ning back is Jason Tezeno.
Levelland will try to get control
of the football in the secondary and
get ahead of the Longhorns and
force them to play catch up.
The following is the lineup for
Friday night’s football game:
Offense: CJ Quoen/Cornelio
Lopez split end, tackles Josh
McDaniel and Scotty Mitchell,
guards Michael Gipson and Paul
Zamora, tight end Jon Confer, cen-
ter Joseph Hutchinson, quarterback
Josh Yearwood, full bock Darin
Kauffinan, running back, Jason
Tezeno, flanker, Terry Bryant
Defense: linebackers Cliff
Hutcheson, Abel Rodriguez, nose

ATTEND THE CHURCH OF YOUR CHOICE
Levelland Ministerial Alliance elects new leaders
What do you call a minister of
the Church of Christ, pastor of a
non-denominational church and
director of music at a Baptist
church?
Newly-elected leaders of the
Levelland Ministerial Alliance.
Elgin Conner, minister of the
13th and Ave. K Church of Christ,
was recently elected president; Ed
Clark, pas or of Grace Church, vice
president, and Patton Parrish,
director of music at First Baptist
Church, recording secretary.
A record number of
representatives from a broad
cross-section of churches in
Levelland attended the meeting in
which the three men were elected.
“We have many new members
who are very enthused and excited
about being in the alliance, “ said
Conner. “There is a great sense of
cooperation, fellowship and
working together,” he noted. “We
had a record 25 pastors and other
church leaders at our September
meeting, and we had around 16
churches represented.”
Conner targeted three goals for
the alliance. “We have just been
elected, so we have not had much
time to establish some goals or
visions for the organization, but
there are three basic things we
would like to work on,” he noted -
“ involvement of more churches in
the alliance, joint youth ministries
to help young people follow in
God’s ways and more joint
opportunities for ^ministry in the
community.”
*1 would like to begin
contacting or visiting different
pastors in the city to encourage
them to join the alliance, said
Conner.
A number of ministers in
Levelland have other jobs in
addition to their ministries, which
may make it difficult for them to
attend the meetings. “We want
them to know we care and that we
would like for them to be a part of
the alliance if they can,” he noted.
The alliance’s first joint
ministry youth project this summer
was dampened by a tremendous
rainstorm, but the trio want to
begin planning other joint youth
ministry projects. “We want to
continue to generate excitement for
our young believers, no matter
their denomination, and also exhort
young people who believe in the
Lord,” said Lance May, pastor of
the First Presbyterian Church and
outgoing president. “At the same
time, we also want to provide an
opportunity for those young people
who may have never heard the
Gospel.” .«■
And they want to expand the
alliance’s impact upon the
community, said Parrish.
He noted that the three
officers and members of the
alliance are making plans now for
the alliance’s major community
project, participation in the annual
Thanksgiving community service.
The service includes praise
and worship, special music and a
message brought by a pastor from
a wide range of denominations.
During the service, a special
love offering is taken to help the
needy in the community.
