in Levelland. She married Doyle
Schneider on DcC z8, 1976, in
Lubbock. They moved to Lubbock
from Savannah, GA in 1980. She
was a licenced vocational nurse.
She was a member of the ; Baptist
Church.
She was preceded in death by a
sister, Janice B. Fisher in 1998.
She is survived by her husband;
her Son, James Schneider of
Lubbock; her daughter, Jenny
bbock;
Norma Jackson of Levelland; and
her mother, Allene Burton of
Levelland
The family suggests memorials
be sent to Hospice of Lubbock.

on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in the
Fifth Street Baptist Church in
Levelland with Rev. Merle Fulmer
officiating.
Masonic internment services
followed in the City of Levelland
Cemetery under the direction of
George C. Price Funeral Directors
of Levelland.
He died at 7.51 a.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at his home
after a lengthy illness.
He was bom on June 17, 1928,
in Brownfield. He married Frances
Lewis on Nov. 4, 1946, in

Brownfield. He worked in the oil
field until his medical retirement in
1959. He was a veteran of the U S.
Merchant Marine. He was a
member of Fifth Street Baptist
Church.
He is survived by his wife; his
son, Grady Fletcher of Las Vegas,
NV; two daughters, Latonna
Meadows of Phoenix, AZ and
Madonna Snow of Levelland: 11
grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; and seven great-
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of
Levelland Lodge 1236, A.F. and
A.M.

City firefighters responded to a
Dumpster fire Monday night in the
100 block of Elm Street.
A fire damaged a Hartley man’s
pickup Friday morning south of
Levelland.
Pablo Guerrero’s vehicle caught
fire at about 11:37 a.m in the 4000
block of South U S. 385, a report
said.
No estimate was available on
the dollar amount of damage to the
truck.

Saturday Night Special, a
weekly musical variety show
patterned after successful stage
shows in Branson, Mo., will have
its second performance of the fall
season Saturday (Oct 14).
The show featuring traditional
country music, southern gospel and
comedy is produced by the SPC
Creative Aits Department. Show
time is 7:30 p.m. in the Tom T.
Hall Performance Center in SPCs
Creative Arts Building. Cost is $5
for senior citizens and $6 general
admission. Proceeds will be used
for scholarships.
Special guest for this week's
show will be Jedd Hughes,
18-year-old fiddler, mandolinist
and singer from Quom, South
Australia, and winner of the flat
pick and mandolin titles this year
at the National Bluegrass
Championships. He is a freshman
commercial music student at SPC.
Christ United Methodist
hosting world missionaries
The Lubbock District of the
United Methodist Church will wel-
come Mission Interpreters from the
General Board of Global Ministries
and Local Interpreters to a Mission
Saturation Event Oct. 14-18, 2000.
Christ United Methodist
Church along with all the churches
in the district will be hosting
worldwide missionaries as well as
providing presentations by local and
regional people who have partici-
pated in outreach ministries.
The community is invited to the
following events in Levelland at the
church located at 1704 College
Ave.:
Sunday, Oct. 15 — Kim Pease,
coordinator of volunteers-in-mo-
tion, for the Northwest Texas Con-
ference, 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship
Hall. 10:45 a.m. worship service.
After worship, join the church at
South Plains College cafeteria for a
pay-as-you-go luncheon.
Sunday, Oct. 15 - Jane
Vaughan, director of church rela-
tions for the McCurdy School in
Espanola, NM, 5 p.m. in the Fel-
lowship Hall. A snack supper will
be held after the talk.
Tuesday, Oct. 17 - Tim
Crawford, missionary for the
United Methodist General Board of
Global Ministries, beginning at
noon in the Fellowship Hall. Bring
a brown-bag lunch. He will be
available to answer questions on the
subject of agriculture after the pre-
sentation. South Plains students and
all interested persons are invited to
participate.
Wednesday, Oct. 18 - Rhondq
McCarty, an advocate for the
Palestinian Christians that live in
the Bethlehem area and an activist
for peace with justice in the Middle
East, 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship
Hall. Soup and sandwiches will be
served.
Melinda Amalia
completes basic
Army Private Melinda G.
Amalia has graduated form basic
combat training at Fort Jackson,
Columbia, South Carolina.
During the training, the soldier
received instruction and practice in
drill and ceremony, marching, rifle
marksmanship, armed and unarmed
combat, map reading, field tactis,
military courtesy, military justice,
physical fitness, first aid, and Army
history and traditions.
She is the daughter of Larry J.
and Lyna K. Bums of Whitharral.
She is a 1994 graduate of
Whitharral High School.
John Hartin, chairperson of the
Creative Arts Department who
helped to launch the new show,
hopes it will become a popular
weekend entertainment vehicle for
people on the South Plains and
beyond. "This type of
entertainment is popular all across
the country, not just in Branson,".
said Hartin, who plays pedal steel
and electric guitar in the show.
"We feel mis show is an
outstanding new option in
entertainment for Levelland and
the South Plains."
The Saturday Night Ensemble
includes nine student singers and
musicians and three faculty
musicians from the Creative Arts
Department, Hartin, Rusty
Hudelson, show director, and Joe
Carr, assistant director.
Besides its entertainment
value, the show also is a valuable
educational tool for the students
who participate in it, said Hartin.
"We feel that the show gives our
students some important
educational opportunities to learn
their craft and gives performing
arts technology and sound
technology students involved in the
show an opportunity for
professional-level internship," said
Hartin.

class scheduled
A short course in Introductory
Microsoft Access begins Oct. 23 at
South Plains College in Levelland.
The course focuses on
relational database software.
Participants will learn how to use
the popular database software
Microsoft Access, including
essential terminology of relational
databases and why they are so
popular, how to create new
databases and tables quickly and
easily with point-and-click
graphical screens and use form
wizards to quickly build new data
entry forms.
Participants who complete the
course will receive a certificate for
1.5 continuing education units.
Classes will meet 7-9:30 p.m.

Nov. 8 in the SPC Technical Arts
