Freedom 2000 crusade to hit Levelland end of month
Six local ministers and a young
evangelist and missionary from
Kampala, Uganda, have bridged a
6,000 mile gap to bring perhaps the
city's most ambitious crusade to
Levelland at the end of this month.
John Wakabi will conduct the
Freedom 2000 Jesus Victory
Crusade Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 2-4
at Levelland Junior High
Auditorium. Services will include
praise and worship and will meet
each night at 7 p.m.
Wakabi has seen thousands of
people saved and healed in
crusades he has conducted in
Africa, Europe and the Middle East
as well as crusades he has
conducted in Dallas and Houston.
"In Africa, thousands have
gathered from villages, and God
has healed them. Africa has been
struck with AIDS, and AIDS can
be healed through prayer," believes
Wakabi. "1 have seen a number of
AIDS cases healed during
crusades. We prayed for people
with AIDS and doctors were
standing by to test for the HIV
virus. The test results went from
positive to negative."
"I have seen blind eyes healed,
broken marriages restored,
children repenting, impossible
cases healed. Revival has come to
cities and towns," he said.
Wakabi believes the same
thing can happen for Levelland.
"Our desire is for revival to

come to the city," he said.
One of the pastors he is
working with, Frank Saldana,
pastor of Levelland Central
Foursquare Church, affirmed the
importance of the crusade. "I
believe this crusade will be
important for Levelland for two
reasons. In my heart I believe that
there will be a lot of salvations and
that the body of Christ will be
brought into unity."
Wakabi is also working with
five other men - Ed Clark, pastor
of Grace Church, Glen Bielss,
pastor of Trinity Fellowship
Church, Robert Vega, pastor of
Praise and Worship Temple, Keith
Paxton, pastor of First United
Methodist Church in Sundown,
and Larry Gilliam, an evangelist
with the Assembly of God Church,
to make the crusade a reality.
The crusade needs the help of
people across the community.
Saldana encouraged other
Christians to become a part of the
crusade. "We need prayer warriors
and intercessors, people to sing in
a community choir, altar workers,
ushers, video and audio
technicians, people to hand out
brochures and flyers throughout
the city advertising the crusade,
young people and youth groups and
churches throughout the city and
area to get involved." He asked
that interested volunteers contact

Saldana had met Wakabi at a
summer church camp in Buffalo
Gap, who was there with a church
group from Houston.
The two sensed an immediate
kinship. "We did not talk a whole
lot, but every chance we got we
shared how God was ministering in
our lives and ministries," said
Saldana.
Wakabi had been saved as a
small boy after his father
abandoned the family and they
were left destitute and starving.

God who created heaven and
earth" to save us or let us die,"
recalled the young man. A miracle
happened. "Jesus came into the
room and saved and restored us,"
he said.
Wakabi and his family quickly
joined a church and, not long after,
he was powerfully touched by the
Lord and called to be an evangelist.
He became a student leader in
church, song and choral leader,
underwent Bible training, and at
the age of 16 became a preacher.
God began to send him to other
countries and he began to plant

"He would tell me to go, and I
would get up and go."
Wakabi ministered in Dubai,
Oman, Pakistan, Uganda, Kenya
and other places. His sister was
also powerfully touched by the
Lord and is now serving in a
church in Houston.
Earlier this year, Wakabi
sensed that the Lord was leading
him to West Texas, but he did not
know where.
After the two met at the church
camp, "John mentioned he would
like to come to Levelland to visit,"
recalled Saldana. "I began to sense
that the Lord wanted to move in
revival in this area of Texas. A
month later John called and said he
was on his way," said Saldana.
"As we drove around town, the
Lord began to confirm in John's
spirit that this was the place."
"I encourage people to come to
the crusade," said Wakabi. "We
will have people to pray for the
sick, to do special counseling and
to minister to all those who need
help. Now is the time."
