From Behind the Fence
WIN SOME, LOSE SOME, MOVE ON
Can't complain about no rain although we didn't get any until Friday.
Unless we get more, it will be dry again by the weekend.
It's a hill moon, but unless you saw it before bed. you probably missed
it. It was far west when I rose.
The BC Bank Time and Temp says 5:32, 81 degrees. Feels like 91.
Humid, and it's going to be a hot summer.
By the time I finish feeding the cats and the doves. I'm sweating. I
wonder why doves don't fear cats, they let them come within 10 feet and
lay there watching the birds. Only one pair of young doves is hanging
together. The older birds are ignoring the old ladies. Too hot to mess
around, I guess.
Can't see the traffic on the highway. Can't hear it either. Amazing how
much a wall insulates you from the outside world. At least Bland Street
is still open. A fence is a small price in the mix of things.
You win some, you lose some. But you move on ... and wait for your
tum.
So come along-it won't do you no harm.
YOUR HELP NEEDED
Adam Dupuis stayed in Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. He
came home last week, still under the weather.
Adam has a three-wheel blue bike with a rear big white basket. He
must have the bike for the exercise. When the youngster came home, his
bike was missing.
The handicapped youngster is really depressed that someone has
borrowed this special bike. It would cost $500 to replace it.
Here's how you can help: if you see this three-wheeler somewhere in*
Bridge City-on the side of the road, in a ditch, anywhere-please call 735-
5334 or 735-4014.
It would be a shame if this unfortunate youngster was denied one of his
few pleasures. Please help.
EAR TO THE GROUND
By now I'm sure you've heard that 163rd District Court Judge David
Dunn will retire when his term is up. i
"The opportunity to serve has been a gratifying experience, and I thank
the citizens for their support and cooperation. It has been a pleasure
working with the citizens, fellow members of the judiciary, attorneys,
court staff, county employees and elected officials," Dunn said. He has
served as district judge since 1976.
Who will replace him? Of course, that is unknown but our ear to the
ground tells us Karla Rogers, former GOP, will run as a Demo. Also
fellow Vidorian attorney Rodney Price will jump in. Best known Vidor
attorney Larry Hunter is not interested at this time.
Orange attorney Dennis Powell is already out soliciting support.
Orange City Attorney and practicing lawyer Jerry Pennington is a sure
bet to make the race.
Talk that attorney Tommy Gunn would make the race has quieted.
Some believe he will wait to run for Judge Buddie Hahn's seat when he
gives it up.
No use waiting on Judge Pat to give his up. He'll be sitting on the
bench at the end of time.
Others may enter the 163rd race. We'll let you know.
In other action, BC City Manager Jeff Ellington will step down from
the Airport Advisory Board; Kirk Roccaforte is expected to replace him.
BC Coach Dewayne "Beaver" DuBois has left BC to be reunited with
his high school teammate, Jason Matthews. He will coach varsity
football at Vidor.

A FEW HAPPENINGS
Doug Harrington has really taken some razzing about us running his
picture in a Longhorn T-shirt and making the sign. I'm glad I didn't have
,anything to do with it. Payback is hell. I did call Doug for the ingredients
in Viagra. (Even though he's an Aggie, he is a chemist.) Here's the list of
ingredients he sent back: 2% aspirin, 2% ibuprofen, 1 % filler and 95%
Fix-a-Flat. I knew better than to ask him.•••••Preacher Lockler,
top dog at First Baptist-BC, is one heck of a nice guy, good for the church
and also for the community. He tells some great church stories in our
feature about the history of Bridge City FBC. One he didn't tell I saw in a
church bulletin: "Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Please
use large double doors at the side entrance."•••••Johnny
Montague was getting the Farm Report from Andry Guidry and Charlee
Phelps Saturdays at Rocking J. $1.99 breakfast. Johnny tries to buy a
longhorn cow from Phelps; he doesn't come up with a price and won't
trade for Johnny and Riley's donkey. It really got interesting when Kirk
brought Shirley in. She keeps everybody straight,

softball team. The BC star led her team in almost all
categories.•••••Tom and Betty Brooks have been married 30
years. They will be honored at the Family Life Center at Second Baptist,
2-3 p.m. on July 3. Poor Betty. Now if anyone deserves a place in
heaven, she does. I think Snuffy Smith, L.K. and a bunch of others
agree.^^^^^Willie Gregg's mom and dad, John and Evelyn,
celebrated 68 years together on June 19. They married in 1931. Now,
folks, if that's not a record, it's a darn good average.
Congratulations.•••••"Choices" looks like it will be a big hit for
George Jones. About every 10 years, he comes up with a blockbuster.
About time you think the ol' Possum is dead, here he comes up again, rm
glad there's a lot of talent left behind the record companies still pushing
their young stars.^^*^*<3ary was roasted on the Richard Corder

Further get me a docen qual. He gave me a simple way to cook them.
Even though I have a recipe of my own, I tried his. Delicious. I always
use an iron pot, put a little water in h. When it gets hot. put the birds in,
seasoned. Doot cover it. Add a tittle water when it cooks down. Tum
birds, adding water m needed. Add vegetabies-not too many. Doot kill
the taste of the birds. You end with a nice brown gravy, no grease. Serve
on a bed of rice. Quail is all white meat and doesn't take long to
cook ^‘•••WLou Raburu should be home from the hospital by the
