TLC tramples the Tigers Do«s *° host Generals tomorrow
by Ken Eilert
Last Saturday's contest at Mat-
ador Stadium was played true to
fashion as far as the Bulldog's
rushing game was concerned.
Fullback David Wehmeyer ram-
bled for 181 yards on 24 carries to
lead the Bulldogs past Bishop Col-
lege 26-9 in the evening's Home-
coming game.
The rest of the Bulldog offense
contributed their share, too, as
the Dogs amassed 335 yards rush-
ing and 95 yards passing for a to-
tal offense of 435 yards.
Wehmeyer started the scoring
with a 14-yard run with 12*36 left
in the first quarter to cap off a
five play, 36-yard drive. The
try for point was no good and TLC
led 6-0.
The Dogs scored again the next
time they had the ball with Weh-
meyer doing the honors fromV.l
yards out. That score came as a
result of a 45-yard drive on six
plays. After quarterback Gay Ion
Tucker raced across for the two
point conversion, the score read
TLC-14, Bishop-0 with 3:36re-
maining in the first period.
Midway through the second
stanza, Mike Washington went in
second.
After all was said and done, O-
tis Fields came away with two of
the four defensive awards given
each week. He was selected as
from 11 yards out after a 92-yard defensive player of the week and
five play drive. The PAT kick was given the hardest hit award.
was wide, and with 7:01 left in
the half, the Bulldogs led 20-0.
Larry Hilton added a Tiger
touchdown midway through the
third period to make the score
20-7, TLC. David Wehmeyer
proceeded to score his third TD
of the evening on an 11-yard
scamper topping off a 55-yard
drive on eight plays. That play
was the first one of the fourth
quarter.
All the Tigers could manage
was a safety with 3:15 left inthe
game and the Bulldogs had won
their third straight 26-9. All but
one of the TLC scores were set up
by Tiger turnovers. Two inter-
ceptions by corner back Otis
Fields set up the first and third
touchdowns, and a fumble re-
covery by Joe Tatum set up the

Saturday's Homecoming battle,
the Dogs go into the final game
with five wins and four losses.
The Generals come into the
game with a 4-3 record on the
season. If one were to look at
mutual opponents, the edge would
have to go to the Bulldogs.
Both teams have played Austin
College and McMurry, with the
Dogs winning both games, 55-7
and 33-12, respectively. The
Generals, on the other hand, de-
feated the Kangaroos 33-8 but
were beaten by McMurry, 7-6.
Not much is known about Mill-
saps' personnel, but not really
that much has to be known for
the Dogs to get fired up for the
contest. It was only a year ago
that the Generals scored two
touchdowns in the final five min-
utes to pull out a 12-7 victory.
This will be the second contest
between the schools.
One other aspect that could be
in the minds of the TLC squad is
the brief story that appeared in
SPORTS ILLUSTRATED about six
weeks ago. It talked about the
TLC player who hit a Mi I Isaps
player "for no apparent reason"
after the game. For those who
were there, there was an appar-
ent reason so the Bulldogs will
be out to defend their reputation

Watch out for the ‘Dogs
by Cory Goller
The TLC women's volleyball
team ended its season on a losing
note as they were defeated by
Baylor University in three games
and Incarnate Word College in
straight games at Baylor last
weekend.
This was a double elimination |
tournament that had all the teams
from this district competing.
Southwest Texas finished first,
University of Texas second, and
Baylor third.
The Bulldogs finished the sea-
son with a 5 wins -10 losses record.
According to Kathryn Yandell,
head of the HPER Department, the
record was not indicative of how
the team really played.
The system of play was totally
new and it took the girls a long
timetoget it down. But by hav-
ing this year as a learning year,
Miss Yandell feels teams had bet-
ter watch out for the "Dogs" next
season.
