APO: she’s the one
The Alpha Phi Omega fratern-
ity has named senior co-ed Lael
Cordes as their sweetheart for the
present school term.
Lael is a sociology major from
Yorktown. She hopes to go into
medical social work after gradu-
ation . '1 worked at Lutheran Gen-
eral Hospital in San Antonio last
summer and got some experience"
explains Lael. 'Theopportunities
are good because it is a new field
just opening up."
The four years Lael has spent at
TLC have been active ones. She
is presently a member of the Con-
phas in all of their activities this All Ollieffa bcailtV cert Choir and vice~President of
• m J the Campus Congregation, where
coming year and just enjoy being
sweetheart.
Judy is a member of Kappa Zeta
Rho and vice-pres. of Kappa Pi
Gamma sorority. She is interested
in all sports, both participating
and watching.
What is it like to suddenly be
Omega Sweetheart? For Susan
Dillon, the new sweetheart, it
was a great surprise and an even
greater honor.
Susan grew up in Mercedes. In
high school, she explained that
she was active in various organ-
izations and received recognition
-- i i j for citizenship and academic a-
1 h0 lOVClybaill-bcla chievement, but "Not anything
like being a Sweetheart!"
she also serves on the Social Con-
cerns Committee. Recently Lael
was selected as a representative
on the Student Task
Paula Schuster-
The newly elected Lambda
sweetheart is Paula Schuster from
Maxwell. Paula is a sophomore
elementary education major with
a specialization in biology.
The sweetheart honor was pre^-
sented to Paula at the annual
Lambda Homecoming party which
was held at Lake McGueeny
last Saturday night.
Extra-curricular activities that
she is involved inhereat TLC in-
clude being a member of the Pom-
Pom Girls, Kappa Pi Gamma
sorority, a Honor Scholar, Kappa
Zeta Rho secretary, and Student
Productions Hospitality Chair-
man. Also, she was a member of
the sophomore Homecoming court.
Paula's talent is shown in many
ways. She plays the guitar, sings,
sews, and cooks.
After graduating from TLC, she
plans to teach elementary school
because "I like working with
kids."
By Paula's concluding state-
ment, it is evident that she will
successfully represent the Lamb-
das. "Being chosen as sweet-
heart was an unexpected honor
and I'm proud to represent the
Sigma Lambda Chi."
Now Susan is a member of the
All College Council, the Stu-
dent Affairs Committee, Student
Education Association, and Beta
Alpha Sigma sorority.
Her double major is elementa-
ry education/communication arts,
with specializations in speech
and mass communications. She
is the LSLcopy editor, and works
in admissions as well as being sec-

retary to the Speech Depart-
ment. Recently elected to WHO'S
WHO, she was also chosen Home-
coming Queen.
Among her more definite plans
is a wedding date in June, soon
after graduation.
On further reflection, she
noted that she is pleased and ex-
cited at being Omega Tau Sweet-
heart .
"I see the Omegas as individ-
uals and in my opinion, it is the
individuals in Omegas that makes
it the best and most sought after
fraternity on campus," Susan con-
cluded.
Lael Cordes
also holds the position of Head
Resident in Emma Frey.
Lael enjoys her position in Em-
ma Frey. She feels that the u-
nique situation of having both
girls and guys in the same dorm
offers many advantages, only one
of which is having guys around to
fix things.
When informed of her selection
as APO Sweetheart, Lael relates
that she was both stunned and hap-
py. "They're a good bunch of
guys and it'll be fun to represent
them," she says.
Lael is a person who enjoys
life. "Wherever I am I try to
enjoy what I'm doing" she ex-
plains. She feels this to be a ma-
jor reason she has enjoyed life
at TLC so much.
This enjoyment of people and
life enables Lael to look toward
her post-TLC days with anticipa-
tion and enthusiasm.
