Weekly Message ....
From Our W.D. Ministers
Rev. Ron Ledbetter
First Baptist Church
I would like to share this article
with you.
He would rather not kill his
children, but he w'ill.
And then he and his wife will
die.
Ie is a Christian, this Maj.
Hong. Army of the Republic of
South Vietnam.
■ He explained his death in a
letter written a few' days ago to
the Rev. James F. Humphries,
the Baptist missionary who bap-
tized him.
"My dearest J. F. Humphries
and family:
"I do not know that this letter
comes to you or not because I
wrote then I tore many,many
times as I do not want to let
you know bad news.
"Last Sunday night April 6th,
Pastor Holden decided 'to can-
cel1 Trinity Church and he left
Saigon. I don't know that I cry
or I laught. I do not know where
1 can go to worship. As I wrote
to you when you left VN, I gave
up all hopes. So now I don't
know what happened in my mind
I though Trinity Baptist Church
with Pastor Humphries always
in my mind.
"When I am writting a friend
called me and asked if Comm-
unist comes here where I go.
I answered that I and hiy family
will go to Paradise because I
can't live with Communist. The
only thing I worry is my child-
ren. They are so small and they
have to be killed by their par-
ents. He asked me as a Chris-
tian why I don't ask the miss-
ionaries. He does not know that
in Saigon now there is no one,
all of them left to the other
safe countries to bring good
news.
"Today in the US is memory
day of Pre. Roosevelt. I rem-
ember he said: ' the only thing
we fear is fear itself. ’ We are
not afraid anything but how we
can fight against Communist
with our hands empty while the
Communist has a mass of best
weapons, they are supported un-
limited while we have been
abandoned-We are betrayed.
"Once when I translated a
Vietnamese song to Mrs. Hodge,
'Buddhist has left VN, Christ
has left VN, ' she said that God
does not abandon your country -
maybe she is right.
"The only thing I can do is
to fight and to pray and wait
for a miracle (which may never
comes). I agree with a Congress-
man or Senator said that not to
support VN (military aid) her-
cause there will be no peace by
that way- he's absolutely right,

Randy Blumers Visit
Mr. and Mrs. Randy Blumer and
children of Lubbock and Marla
Snodgrass of Borger visited their
grandmother Mrs. Laura Jo Skaggs
Saturday afternoon. The Randy
Blumers were returning to Lub-
bock from Duncan and Wood-
ward, Oklahoma where they had
visited relatives.
that way will bring no fight in
this country and communist is
in this country and millions
people are killed by Communist.
So when Saigon is similar to
Cambodia, you are sure that
my family no more exists on
earth.
"Dear Jim-Please forgive me
if this letter waist your time
and my writting is bad as I am
so nervous- "May God bless and
keep you all safe. "Awaiting
your answer, I remain "Very
truly yours "Major Hong
"P. S. If you writte to me,
please give me a picture of
your family. Thank you. "
The Rev. Mr. Humphries, an
Arlington resident and vice pre-
sident for orientation and enlist-
ment of The World Evangelisnj
Foundation, baptized the major
in 1967. He was pastor of the
Trinity Church while in South
Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
Maj. Hong has five children,
he said. They range in age from
3 to 12.
The major's family fled North
Vietnam when the' Communists
took over in 1954.
"Now there’s no plaice to go.
except to go to the Lord, " the
Rev. Mr. Humphries said.
"Christianity and Communism
do not mix. That (being a Christ-
ian) is enough (for a Communist
death sentence). "
Vietnamese don't look at sui-
cide the way a Westerner would,
he said.
"They're very fatalistic in
their thinking, to begin with. "
And he sees the way the family
will die. "They'll get together
as a family. Their children will
understand. And in just a few
moments, they'll be with the
Lord. "That's the decision they-
have made and I hope and pray
I can get this letter to them be-
fore. . . "I'm sending a letter to-
day (to the American embassy).
I'm going to stand good for seven
(airline) tickets. "I'll borrow
the money to do it. "I've got
to give them hope. "Even it
they're killed, they'll know that
somebody loved them and was
trying to do what was right. "
May God keep our nation
safe and strong.
