Children and Youth Banquet
ORANGE —The American
Legion Post #49 held its first State
Children and Youth Banquet
Friday, April 28, at the post home
on Green Avenue.
The Children and Youth
Program grew out of concern for
the family of the doughboy (or sol-
dier) of WWI. At the first national
convention in 1919, the welfare of
children was discussed and four
resolutions wer adopted by the
convention. Posts were urged to aid
widows and children of deceased
veterans, and another resolution
petitioned Congress to make extra
allowances for wives and children
in the payment of compensation to
war disabled veterans.
From this concern came the
primary purpose of the Child Wel-
fare Foundation to provide a set-
ting in which every veteran’s child
can realize his or her full potential.
With this purpose in mind, the
American Legion set out to insure
ev ery child of a veteran, regardless
of family circumstances, would be
insured of the utmost
in care and protection. The
program grew to include all
American children the opportunity
to realize their full potential. First
concern of the program, though
will be to the child of the veteran.
The American Legion Child Wel-
fare Foundation, Inc. is dedicated
to the betterment of all children.
The theme of the banquet was "A
Square Deal for Every Child”. This
banquet was hosted by the Lloyd
Grubbs Post #49 Lcgionaires and
Auxiliary.

Commander from Odessa, spoke-
on what it is to be an American and
reflected on the history of America
and all the great men and women
who served in the wars and helped

the American Legion Child Wel-
fare Foundation, Inc. by the local
Legion and Auxiliary.

PTA Salutes Teachers
Dear Editor,
Education authorities have sug-
gested that the best way to improve
education in this country is to give
teachers the status, support and
recognition they so geniunely
deserve. The Bridge City Elemen-
tary PTA agrees.
We are joining together with
others in the National PTA to help
everyone realize all of the outstand-
ing work being done by our public
school teachers. Their work is the
foundation of this country, for
without them how would we edu-
cate our scientists, artists, political
leaders, and all the others who
make this country one of the best in
the world.
The Bridge City Elementary PT A
says “Hats off to our many fine
teachers.” Please join us and say
“thanks” to your child’s teacher
today.
Sincerely,
Vita Swarers,
President
