^ Did you ever win a trophy or award? Dr. Chester St. Romain
• and I in our discipline for good health have jogged for years.
Eventually we began joining others in amateur competition,
, called fun runs.
Soon we started proudly bringing home shining trophies, until
one day we got "found out." Our snooping families learned that
, sometimes we won because few or no other men in our age
. division participated.
Thus faded our glory. Now we get no respect. My glory just
faded a little more as I heard Vera murmur across the room, "But
you always seemed so slow to me in those runs I cheered.”
A great Christian nearing life's finish line spoke in athletic
terms. Paul said, "The time of my departure is at hand. I have
fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the
faith.
"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
• and not to me only, but unto all them that love His
appearing."(ff Tim. 4:6-8)
, ,,tBefore looking at the crown (trophy) you may win, look at the
summary of Paul's life. "I have fought a good fight." No, he
wasn't boasting. He didn't brag, "I did well."
He said the kind or type of fight I have been in has been
always a fight for "good." I struggled in the cause of goodness.
Do you? And what is goodness?
God's ways of goodness are the Mother Theresa kind. Jesus
said, "For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty,
and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was
in prison, and ye came unto me." (Matt. 25:35-36). Been doing
some of that lately?
* The victor's crown that will be awarded at life's end will not be
of gold, the glittery stuff. Rather it will be "a crown of
righteousness."
I’m not quite sure of everything he meant about
"righteousness." But I suspect it has a lot to do with right
character, integrity, being fully right with God.
I still remember something precious. Dr. G. Earl Guinn,
Southwestern Seminary preaching professor, paused one day in
a Scriptural exposition about heaven. He looked down for a
moment in silence, and then slowly said this.
"Fellows, do you know what I look forward to the most about
heaven? Someday I'll be all finished with my sins and
shortcomings...Someday I'll step up out of the muck and mire of
my own failures on to the beautiful streets of heaven."
A poet wrote, "Oh, that will be glory for me...When by His
grace, I shall look on His face, That will be glory for me."
The aged John wrote, "We shall be like Him, for we shall see
Him as He is." Won't that be a golden daybreak?

The Innocent Little Boy
Was Now A Beast
By Cheater Moore, Jr.
Dead leaves danced in the
air while bleak winds chided the
human bones. A light mist hung
over the neighborhood. This was
not the normal autumn mist, It
was an ominous one, a sign of
things to come. The smells of
this morning were not normal
either. There was no smell of
cooking bacon and eggs, only a
seductive sweetness that lin-
gered everywhere.
All of the children waiting for
the school buses were entranced
by the day. They did not their
normal talk, but instead they
talked of fear and wonder.
Something was going to get
them they said, and they could
not wait.
As the day passed by t
certain child became impatient.
For he knew what the night
would bring. All of his fantasies
and day dreams would come
true. He would be what does
bump in the night and would
keep company with those who
did the same.
School ended and the day
had just begun for this child.
Now was the time that he had
been waiting for. As the seats in
the bus slowly became empty, he
knew that he was about to be left
off and the transformation would
begin. He walked to the door of
the house and took a look around
him. A face on his neighbor’s
porch stared back at him with a
devilish smile. A beast on the
door of his home welcomed him
in.
A few hours passed and
with the helping hands of his fa-
ther he changed. The innocent
little boy was now a beast that
could scare anyone, except him-
self. The day finally yielded its
brilliance to the darkness and the
little beast went on the hunt. He
found company in friends who
were also transformed, but not to
the degree that he was. For a
while he followed them and took
things from neighbors who would
smile and act scared. He saw
through them though. They were
not afraid because they did not
believe.
The little boy parted ways
with his friends and walked down
the dark street. He was not
along though. Fear was with him
and he enjoyed it's company,
when he got home his mother
welcomed him with sweets and
told him that a scary movie was
on television. He then shed his
beastly face and was back to
being a regular little boy. He
watched the movie until it ended
at midnight. The witching hour
