Feb. 13-18-1882 Commissioners
court in session all week. A large
amount of business attended to.
Among the other things an order
waa passed .to build a new court-
house at Palo Pinto. Contract to
be let the 20th of March next.
Mar.6J 1 District court convened
Monday and adjoufned Friday.
Three indictments disposed of, rjl
acquitted. 15 bills found,' 5 felonies
and 10 midemeanora. But little
civil business. County court also
Monday.» One case acquitted.
Spent Saturday-finishing up the
„ work left by the court.
March 20 Commissioners court
met and let the contract for the
new courthouse. The building
will cost $32,506.'

Also a good sermon at night.

May 29, Monday. Got'a wagon
and team from the farm and started
to Cranbury this afternoon to
bring home my son, Ed, and
daughter Jennie who are attending
the Methodist College there. My
daughter Laura and Mr. Charley
Smith are with me. Are camped
near Cresco.
May30. Started’early and drove to
Buck Creek for breakfast. Drove
to Robinson Creek for dinner and
reached Granbury during the after-
noon. A heavy rain at night. The
young ladies “Adelphian Literary
Society*’ gave an entertainment
at night which was very creditable
indeed. •
May 37,Wed. The whole surface
of the earth is saturated with water
tHis morning. Attended the ex-
aminations of the various classes
today. 9 Most of the pupils acquitt-
ed themselves very creditably. At
night Mrs. Switzer’s music class
gave a concert, which showed the
pupils had had good training. It
-was very much enjoyed by a large
audience. „
Jun. I Thursday. A very beautiful
morning. Declamation and essays
this a. m. Some of them very
good indeed. Not much doing
during the afternoon. A speech
at night by I. „W. Stephens of
Weatherford. After which about
20 prizes were distributed among
the students; Among them 2 gold
medals. One to Mr. Latta Trimble
for declamation and the other to
Miss Rhonda Caulder for best essay.
The college building was filled to
overflowing. This closes tbfe exer-
cises. The school is a good one
and worthy of patronage. There
is a fine spirit among the students
and the social and religious in-
fluences seem to be for good,

ment for Palo Pinto County: Pav-
ing intersections of U. S. Highway
281 and 80, 20 miles of asphalt
surfacing on U. S. Highway 80-A
from Brad to Metcalf Gap and
from Eagle Creek to Mineral Wells,
from U. S. 80 to Santo and
from Strawn to Mingus of High-
way 108, These projects will be
let May 21.

Mrs. Joe Hearn, passed away
Friday in Mineral Wells after a
lingering illness. She was 7J
years of age. Funeral services
were conducted by Rev. Ben
Thompson, pastor of Calvary
Baptist Church. R. H. Beetham
directed the funeral. Burial was
made at Woodland Park. Mrs.
Hearn is survived by hfcr husband
and five children. She was born
March 15, 1869.
