Student Senate
hears Oestrich
By Ernie Loeffler
The Student Senate met Sunday
in a special session with Dr.
Charles H. Oestreich, Academic
Dean. Bill Friedrich, Student
Association President, introduced
Dean Oestreich as a "very recep-
tive administrator here." The
main topic of concern was facul-
ty-course evaluations.
Dean Oestreich stressed that
the administration favors course
evaluations as a method of finding
out the level of communication
between professors and students.
He also noted that a new system
could be suggested by the Senate.
Some Senate suggestions in-
cluded: evaluations being done
in the middle of the term so pro-
fessors can improve the second
part of the course if needed .
The Senate also suggested that
future interim seminar courses
might include crash typing and
auto mechanics for girls.
Some members of the Senate
expressed concern over the inter-
im exchange program. Dean
Oestreich noted that everything
possible had been done to secure
bulletins from other colleges.
Some of the colleges just have not
responded.
Dean Oestreich expressed a
desire to return and discuss other
ideas with the Senate at a later
time because "the college is at a
point where long-range planning
is occurring." He noted that the
administration is looking at the
grading system where "F" is elimi-
nated (A, B, C, D, no credit),
at cooperative education, and
at the possibilities of mini-
semesters .

Alex Sosa, William Ramirez
awarded SIMA scholarships
Alex Sosa from San Antonio and
William Ramirez, Floresville,
were named recipients of book
scholarships this week by Gil
Garcia, Coordinator of the Mex-
ican-American Program.
The $50 scholarships are given
to Mexican-American freshmen
through money raised by Mexi-
can-American Studies Center or-
ganization.
The group sponsored a dance
to collect the money to establish
the fund. Hopeful ly, the program
will become a regular item of the
Studies Center.
Two additional $50scholarships
will be awarded next semester.
The Mexican-American stu-
dents plan to sponsor a similar
activity next semester so that
funds for the book scholarships
may be available.
TLC Band to present
afternoon concert
Under the direction of Roy Nor-
ton, the TLC Concert Band will
perform Sunday at 4 p.m. in Wup-
perman Little Theater.
The opening selections will be
Berlioz-Safranek's Roman Carni-
val Overture, Williams' Dramatic
Essay, Liebestod by Wagner-
Bainum, and Festivoby Nelhybel.
A short recess will follow.
After intermission the concert
will continue with La Boheme
(March Paraphrase) by Puccini-
Alford-Harding, Mitchell's Fan-
tasia, Minuet and Dance of the
Blessed Spirits by Gluck-Bainum,
Sherzo by Siennicki and Gade-
Krance's Jalousie.
A change to contemporary
sounds will end the program as
music from Chicago will construct
the Band's finale.
The "Royal Jesters," one of the hottest sounds in Texas, will
be making noise again this weekend for all you heavy dudes who
dig fine tunes. Freaks, cowboys, jocks and sots are all invited to
do their thing with a band that is becoming a household name in
the San Antonio area.
Last year they impressed us with their great style of music sev-
eral times to capacity crowds in Riebe Dining Hoi I, so this time
we will "do it" in the Gym, all night, Friday night from 8 to 12.
If you cal I yourself a student and have an ID card you get in free—
to "funkifize your soul." If you know where it's at—you'll be
there!
