DR. ROB AND JANIE SELLERS describe missions as
"the most exciting adventure imaginable." For Dr.
Sellers, Connally Chair of Missions in the Logsdon
School of Theology, the adventure began while he was
a Mississippi College student, where he felt God
asking him to be in full-time ministry. After gradua-
tion and an 11-week mission in the Philippines, Rob
knew he wanted to be part of international missionsand felt God leading him to a much longer commit-
ment.
Dr. Sellers began studying at the Southern Baptist
Seminary, but spent the entire year struggling with his
desire to go back to Asia. He finally applied to the
Journeyman program and was selected to work in
Indonesia.
In 1977, Rob and his wife, Janie (who had also
served as a Journeyman), were appointed as mission-
ary youth and student workers in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In 1983, Rob became director for the seminary
program there, while Janie continued to disciple
young women throughout the local churches.
In 1987, Dr. Sellers began a Ph.D. in Christian
ethics and Janie an M.A. in Christian education at
Southern Baptist Seminary They eventually returned
to Java, Indonesia, where they both taught at Indone-
sia Baptist Theological Seminary.
In 1996, the Sellers returned to Waco, where he
taught at Truett Seminary. Although they planned
to return to Semarang, within the next year
bothJanie and Rob lost a parent. In 1998,
they resigned from the International
Mission Board, and Dr. Sellers was
named the Connally Chair of Missions
at Logsdon.
Since Dr. Sellers has been at HSU,
a concentration in "Missions and Cross
Cultural Ministry" has been added to
the M.Div. program. In February 2000,
HSU hosted the "Missions in the 21s'
Century" conference at Logsdon. Last
year, he led his first missions immersion
trip to Western Europe.
Dr. Sellers encourages students to be
open and available to God. He believes that
in the same way God was faithful to lead him
and his family, God will faithfully guide students
step by step into the future. Contact Dr. Rob and
Janie Sellers at rsellers@hsutx.edu.
DR. RONALD PREVOST, professor of church
ministry in the Logsdon School of Theology,
recently agreed to join the Moscow Theological
Seminary (MTS) Board of Trustees for a five-year
term.
MTS was established in 1993 by the Russian
Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists and the
Euro-Asian Federation of the Union of Evangelical
Christians-Baptists. MTS began in Moscow with 17
students, fulfilling a 70-year dream thwarted by
Communist oppression.
Since the fall of communism, there is a great
spiritual hunger in Russia. Unfortunately, many
churches lack trained leadership and education to
effectively proclaim the Gospel. To meet this need,IISU RANGE RIDEtR I SPRING/SUMMER 2002
