KJZT Society Reports
The chicken noodle soup and
lunch, sponsored by the K.J.Z.T.
Society held Sunday, April 1,
was a great success. Net profit
was $150.60. The Society is very
grateful to all who brought food
and worked. The Society also
wishes to thank the public for
their generous patronage.

Sweetheart Banquet
Marcella Schneider, the Shi-
ner F.F.A. chapter sweetheart,
represented Shiner at the dis-
trict sweetheart banquet held
in Hempstead Thursday, April
12. This kind of a banquet is
held each year to select a dis-
trict sweetheart who will re-
present the district at the area
meeting to be held in Brenham
in May. This year’s winner was
Dottie Roitsch of La Grange.

• Sodality News
The Freshman Sodality meet-
ing was held April 13 and was
opened with the Act of Conse-
cration led by the prefect. The
secretary read the minutes and
the roll call. One member was
absent. The treasurer reported
that $5.76 for the Bishop’s Re-
lief Fund was collected.
Joan Bujnoch read the medi-
tation for that day. The differ-
ent committees gave their re-
ports. Sister Anastasia gave a
talk on passions and self-de-
nial. Meeting was closed with a

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kurtz
spent Sunday in San Antonio
with their son, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry (Blackie) Kurtz and
family.
She was selected from a field
of nineteen lovely girls repre-
senting nineteen schools.
There was also a talent con-
test held in connection with the
sweetheart contest. This con-
test is also held to select a team
to represent the district in the
area contest. Columbus was the
winner of this contest.
Alton Seifert and Ervin Ber-
ger were the voting delegates
representing the Shiner chap-
ter. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Seale
were also in attendance.

Farmers Union
Meets April 5
The Lavaca County Farmers
Union met Thursday, April 5 at
the County Courthouse in Hal-
lettsville with President Henry
Henke, president. Guest speak-
ers for the meeting were Jay
Naman of Waco, State Presi-
dent and Dr. Lester Cranek of
Garwood.
Mr. Naman reported in the
recent National Convention in
Denver, Colorado, and also on
the progress of the most im-
portant Food and Agriculture
Act of 1962.
Dr. Cranek spoke in behalf of
the Farmers Union.
Booklets on Farm Programs,
“Where Do We Stand?” were
distributed to members and vis-
itors.

Bob Hope is in his “glory”
as a BACHELOR IN PARA-
DISE at the Palace Theatre
Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lee of
Houston spent the weekend here
in the Thomas Hughs home.
Those that attended the Se-
nior Piano and Voice Recital in
Yoakum at the St. Joseph Music
Department were Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Seidenberger and daugh-
ter, Mary Ann, Mr. and Mrs.
Aug. Etlinger and daughter,
Mrs. Jake Kurtz of Moulton and
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kurtz.
