City Council.
According to a notice
sent to City Aidermen, a
representative from the
Railroad Commission, Mr.
Ty King, was in White
Deer yesterday and will be
here today to check all gas
reports, time City employ-

Graduation Friday
For WDHS Seniors
The Vesper Service was
held Sunday afternoon, May
22, for members of the 1983
graduating class of White
Deer High School.
The Rev. George Hollo-
way, pastor of the Skelly-
town Community Church,
offered the Invocation.
Rev. Harold Abney, past-
or of the First Baptist Church
' in White Deer, delivered
the class sermon entitled,
"Use Your Knowledge With
Wisdom."
Father Pete Otto, pastor
of Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in White Deer, pro-
nounced the Benediction.
The processional and re-
cessional were provided by
Miss Kim Stevens at the
piano.
Commencement exercis-
es will be held for the twen-
ty-nine graduating seniors
• tomorrow (Friday, May 27)
evening at eight o'clock in
the High School Auditorium.
May Rain Totals 3 Inches
White Deer has recorded
3.00 inches of moisture
since the 14th day of this
month with 2. 50 inches
falling during a brief span
of time on that date and
another half-inch the fol-
lowing week, 5-21-83.
Pea to marble-size hail
also covered the ground
on the 14th. However,
residents felt fortunate
that the city did not re-
ceive the large stones
that were reported and
witnessed by some resi-
dents in Amarillo on that
day.

According to word receiv-
ed by the News, the City
will be accepting applica-
tions for another gas system
employee to fill the va-
cancy of Dwayne Hillman
who resigned his City po-
sition and started work for
Natural Gas Pipeline Co.
last Friday.
The Council meeting
scheduled for today (May
26) will be an open meet-
ing for persons interested
in the serious gas problems
of the City.
Transferred To Okla. City
~ Deputy Warren Hart of
the Carson County Sheriff's
Department, a patient in
a Shattuck, Okla, hospital
for the past week, was
transferred to St. Anthony's
v. Hospital in Oklahoma City
on Monday. He was sched-
uled for tests including a
heart catherization on Tues-
day.

City Pool To
Open Saturday
The City Swimmin Pool
will open Saturday, May
28, for the 1983 summer
months, according to Mrs.
Clarice Meadows, pool
manager.
Mrs. Meadows said the
pool will be open from 2:00
p. m. until 5:00 p. m. each
~~ Saturday and Sunday. On
Monday, Tuesday, Thurs-
day, and Friday, patrons
may swim from 2:00 until
5:00 p. m. in the afternoon
or 6:00-8:00 p. m. in the
evening. The facility will
be closed every Wednesday.
Daily admission fees will
remain at $1.00 as will
the fee of $25. 00 for sea-
son ticket holders. Parties
may be booked for a two-
hour period at $35. 00.
~ Swimming and Life Sav-
ing lessons will be taught
by Robert Lee later in the
summer. Information can
be obtained by calling the
White Deer Swimming Pool,
883-7151; Mr. Lee, 883-
6381; or Mrs. Meadows,
883-5182.
Trust Fund Established
A Trust Fund has been
established for the Stanley
Palmer family at the First
Bank 8 Trust. Stanley is
unable to work as a result
of complications following
surgery for the treatment
of frost-bite to his feet.
They have a small monthly
income, but it is not e-
nough to meet the needs
of a family with three
small children. Anyone
who wishes to give to this
fund, please do so at the
bank.
FIRE CALL
W.D. Firemen were called,
to extinguish an electrical
fire in the Andrew Gibbs
home, 805 Horseburg St.,
• about 10 o’clock Tuesday
night. The blaze was contain-
ed to the wiring in a closet,
but the home received heavy
smoke damage.
Carson County Commis-
sioners’ Court met May 9th
with all commissioners
present.
Judge Roselius reported
that dry milk had been
added to the butter and
cheese commodities of
government surplus to be
distributed in the County.
County Attorney, Ed >
Hinshaw was granted per-
mission to purchase a 2-way
radio for his automobile
at a cost of $854.00.
Eagle moved to sell three
sheriff's department cars by
competitive bid; it was
approved.
A request for a cooling
system for the DPS room
to improve conditions for
the intoxilyzer was tabled.
Approval was granted for
replacing the south entrance
steps at the courthouse, the
porch area at the library,
along with the concrete
curb, and repairs to other
concrete at the Courthouse
and Ag Bam.
They accepted a Certifi-
cate of Correction presented
by the tax collector con-
cerning two sections of land
owned by Robert Melcher
and sold to the City of
Amarillo.
An invitation was read
from the Carson County.
Extension Homemakers
Club inviting the Judge,
Commissioners and their
wives to the Woman of the
Year luncheon to be held
in the White Deer Com -
munity Center at noon on
Monday, May 16th.
The next meeting will
be May 23rd.
Ed Dittbemer and several
families living on old Mc-
Brayer Road, west from
Hwy. 294, appeared before
the Commissioners Court
on Monday, May 23, to
request work be done on
their road to make it a
caliche road. Dittbemer
reported that seven famil-
ies and 13 children use the
road and requested that it
be given top priority. No
action was taken.
Upon a motion by Comm.
Meadows, seconded by
Comm. Jones, it was agreed
to carry county employees
on the life insurance pro-
gram by Texas Association
of Counties.
Three bids on three Sher-
iff's Dept, cars were open-
ed and read, and accepted.
They were: $710 from Dav-
id Newfeld on a 1978 Pon-
tiac; $1610 from David New-
feld on a 1979 Olds; and
$1850 from Bill Easter on
a 1979 Olds.
After discussing the pur-
chase of an asphalt distrib-
utor, the Court decided to
check into repairing the
one currently owned by the
county.
All commissioners were
present for the meeting.
VBS.To Begin June 6
At Baptist Church
First Baptist Church Va-
cation Bible School will
begin Monday, June 6th,
running through Friday,
June 10th from 9 am until
12 noon.
Mrs. Anna McAnear, Di-
rector, announced buses
will begin their rims at
8:30 am each morning,
stopping at each comer of
each block.
All children, four years
of age through sixth grade,
of the community, are in-
vited to attend.
A Kick-Off Parade will be
held Saturday, June 4 at
1 pm. Anyone wishing to
participate in the parade
should meet on the church
parking lot at 12:30 pm.
Each child participating
must have written parental
permission.
Prizes for first and second
places will be awarded to
the best decorated tricycle
and bicycle.
Refreshments will be serv-
ed at the church following

To Meet With Council
On City Gas Problems
Construction Project
, Underway By GTE
General Telephone an-
nounced that they had be-
gun construction on a new
electronic switching office
for the customers of White
Deer, according to Mem-
phis Operations Manager,
5 Jimmy Bennett.
Actual construction of the
building began Tuesday,
February 1, 1983. Expect- .
ed completion date is 1984.
In addition to the construc-
tion of the new building,
a new electronic switching
system is scheduled to be
in service by late 1984.

Vetter and Denise Waltrip,
were very pleased with
the turnout for the recent
spaghetti supper and band
concert, according to Mr.
Vetter. He also stated
his appreciation to the
communities as a whole
for their support of these
endeavors.
Miss Kelly Stevens,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Dennis, was elect- WHEAT
ed Sweetheart, Vetter
said, and was presented
during the concert.
H.S. Band Takes
Trip To Six Flags
Thirty-two members of the
White Deer High School
Band and six sponsors in-
cluding Band Directors,
Denise Waltrip and Robert
Vetter flew to the Dallas-
Ft. Worth Metroplex on
Saturday, May 21, 1983.
According to Robert Vetter,
they boarded Delta Airlines
at 7 am in Amarillo and
arrived in Dallas at 8 am.
The itinerary included visits
or stops by Charter bus at a
McDonald's near Six Flags
for breakfast. After break-
fast they went to Six Flags
and enjoyed all the features
of the amusement park.
About 4 pm that afternoon,
they boarded the bus again
and went to Joe T. Garcia's
Mexican Restaurant in Ft.
Worth. After the meal they
went to Northeast Mall and
spent a couple of hours shop-
ping and looking around.
They left the airport in Dal-
las at 9:55 pm for their re-
turn flight to Amarillq, via
American Airlines. They all
arrived safely back in White
Deer around 12:30 am.
Mr. Vetter stated, "We all
had a great time ! " "Money

The 4th grade class of
White Deer Elementary
School presented a musical
program entitled "We Are
Proud To Be An American
and A Texan", under the
direction of Mrs. Peggy
Dennis, this morning at
9am in the Grade School
Gym.
The 4th grade class of
Skellytown Elementary
School presented this same
program, yes terday at 2 pm
in Skellytown.
