Many dads are taking
the time this Father’s Day
to strengthen family ties
through an activity that’s
fun, inexpensive and relax-
ing-fishing.
But you don’t have to be
a dad to enjoy America’s
oldest outdoor sport. Take
a friend or co-worker. En-
joying the outdoor experi-
ence while fishing together
Communities across Amer-
ica are cleaning up, as citi-
zens catch on to the advan-
tages of keeping their neigh-
borhoods clean. Litter-free
communities create feelings
of pride among residents,
help enhance the value of
their homes, and attract in-
vestment to the area.
The makers of Hefty ®
trash and kitchen garbage
bags offer these tips to help
you keep your neighbor-
hood litter-free:
• Household garbage is
one of the major sources of
neighborhood litter. People
tend to litter more where
they see litter already accu-
mulated. To overcome this
cycle, be sure your trash is
properly bagged before put-
ting it out for collection.
Heavy-duty bags such as
Hefty Steel Saks help avoid
tears and spills.
• Check your garbage
cans. Do the lids fit tight-
ly? Perhaps it’s time for
replacement. .Be sure cans
are covered daily and be
sure that all the garbage in
those cans is securely bagged
first. That keeps litter where
it belongs even if covers
become dislodged.
• If trash cans on your
property have overturned,
take a few minutes to clean
up the spills. Be aware of
trash collection schedules
and place cans at curb only
on the appropriate days.
• Going for a drive? Keep
a scrap bag in the car for
easy disposal of throwaways.

A great time to start
fishing, says the American
Fishing Tackle Manufactur-
er’s Association, is the week
of June 6-12, National Fish-
ing Week.
You can outfit a group
of four with fishing equip-
ment for little more than
fifty dollars. You probably
don’t have to go far to find
a good place to fish. And ev-
eryone can enjoy the clean
water, fresh air and peace of
mind. Sport-fishing is one of
the most rewarding and
nonstressful pastimes.

Bicycle Safety Urged
By Local Youngsters
Young bicycle riders in
White Deer are cautioned
to be very careful and to
observe all traffic and safe-
ty rules as several near-
accidents have been report-
ed.
Parents might Jake a few
minutes to go over the
"rules of the road" with
their family members as an
added "ounce of prevention.
For example:
♦WATCH on-coming traf-
fic when leaving a drive -
way or at intersections.
(Keep head up.)
♦Use hand signals when
changing directions, slow-
ing or stopping.
♦Observe Traffic Signals,
i. e. Yield or Stop signs or
flashing lights.

♦Ride on the right side
of the street or road.
♦Never carry passengers.
♦Packages should be car-
ried so they don't interfere
with vision or control. (It
is best to use a carrier. )
♦Two or more cyclists
should ride in single file>
close to the right side of
the road.
♦Wear light colored cloth-
ing if riding at night.
♦Install bell or horn, head-
er if bike is not equipted
so rider can be seen and
heard.
Five points of proper care
and maintenance of the bi-
cycle:
1. Check brakes, lights,
and horn regularly.
2. Lubricate all moving
parts at least once a
month and tighten all
nuts and bolts.
3. Maintain recommend-
5. Always park bike up-
right (use the kickstand,
a bicycle rack, or sup-
port against a building.)
Driving a bicycle can be
more enjoyable and acci-
dent-free if the safety rules
are followed.
Ride safely--have fun!
