tals school at Naval Air Tech-
nical Training Center, Memphis,
Tenn.

ed mathematics, physics, elec-
tricity, and the use of aircraft
hardware.
A graduate of the Shiner High
School, Polasek entered the
Marines in June 1962.

Littlefield Honor
Roll Initiated
By Dormitory
Littlefield Dormitory, Uni-
versity of Texas, initiated an
honor roll program to recognize
freshman girls who have made
a 2.0 average or above.
Among the charter members
of the society is Miss Irene Bus-
ke. Miss Carole Welhausen is
also included in the member-
ship.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wenet-
schlaeger and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank A. Wenetschlaeger of
Hermleigh spent the weekend
here with relatives and friends.
Mrs. Isabel Thulemeyer, Mr.
and Mrs. Jeff Mikulik attended
the Tim Cook funeral in Yoa-
kum Monday.

ED SCHNEIDER
Yoakum. — Funeral services
were held in Yoakum at 2:00
p.m. Saturday, March 9, 1963
for Ed Schneider, 63, of 815
Cadwell Street, Yoakum, Rev.
R. B. Lear and Rev. Frank Hol-
Ian officiated at Buffington
Chapel and Oak Grove Cem-
etery.
Mr. Schneider passed away at
the Yoakum hospital Thursday,
March 7 at 4:30 p.m. A life-
time resident of this area, he
was born at Hope November
18, 1899.
Survivors include four sis-
ters, Mrs. Emma Cudd of Hous-
ton, Mrs. Willie Garrett of
Amarillo, Mrs. Clifton O’Neill
and Mrs. Ethel Brasswell, both
of Yoakum.

LEO GERDES
Hallettsville. — Funeral ser-
vices were held Friday, March
8, 1963 for Leo Gerdes, 81, pro-
minent Lavaca County rancher,
Msgr. A. J. Morkovsky officiat-
ing at Kubena Funeral Home,
Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Hallettsville, and Koerth Cem-
etery.
Mr. Gerdes, a former Lavaca
County Commissioner, passed
away at Renger Memorial Hos-
pital March 7 at 4:15 a.m., after
a brief illness.
Mr. Gerdes was born in La-
vaca County December 6, 1881.
He was married to Sophie Her-
mes May 27, 1908, residing at
Koerth, later at Hallettsville.
His wife preceded him in
death January 11, 1962. Survi-
vors include one son, John
Henry Gerdes of Hallettsville;
two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Min-
nie) Hoffer of Pettus and Mrs.
Earl (Lillian) Smith of Yoa-
kum; one sister, Mrs. Minnie
Ternus of San Antonio; three
grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.

MRS. LOUISE MEYER
San Antonio. — Mrs. Louise
Meyer, age 92, passed away
Monday, March 11, 1963. She
had lived with her daughter for
25 years in Dallas and was a
member of Christ Lutheran
Church of Dallas.
Funeral services were held at
2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at
the Homer McClaugherty Fu-
neral Chapel in San Antonio
with the Rev. Arthur Holm of-
ficiating. Interment was in the
San Jose Burial Park.
Survivors include a daugh-
ter, Mrs. Adele Meurin of Dal-
las; a grandson and grand-
daughter, David and Evelyn
Boleyn of Art, Texas; great-
granddaughter, Louise Adele
Boleyn.
Mrs. H. G. Hollman and Elo
Wolters of Shiner attended the
last rites for their aunt in San
Antonio.

Schulenburg
Schulenburg. — Mrs. Gus
Russek, 82, widow of former
State Senator Gus Russek, died
Wednesday morning, March 6,
1963 at her home in Schulen-
burg after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at
the Schwenke-Baumgarten Fu-
neral Chapel at 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 7 in Schulen-
burg.

Mrs. Russek’s husband serv-
ed for 15 years as a state sen-
ator in the 1920s and 1930s. He
died about 15 years ago.
She was a native of Schulen-
burg and had lived here all her
life.
She made her home with her
daughter, Mrs. Frank Merrem
of Schulenburg.
During 1922 she was instru-
mental in gaining the construc-
tion of the present Schulenburg
High School building while
serving as president of the
Parent-Teachers Association.
John Timothy Cook
Services Monday
Funeral services were held in
Yoakum Monday, March 11,
1963 at 4:00 p.m. for John Tim-
othy (Tim) Cook, 80, at Buf-
fington Chapel, with burial in
St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Said to be the oldest active
business man in Yoakum, he

operated the Poor Boy Grocery
Store in Yoakum and his father
is reported to have established
the first grocery store in that
city.
Mr. Cook died at Huth Me-
morial Hospital, Yoakum, at
6:08 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
Considered a life-time resident
of Yoakum, he was known as
a grocer, merchant and real es-
tate man. He was born in La-
vaca County November 3, 1882.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Louise Cook of Yoakum;
one grandson, Quarterman Lee
III of Bloomington; one bro-
ther, C. E. Cook of Austin; one
sister, Mrs. Connie Barth of
California; nieces and nephews.
One daughter preceded him in
death.
Mesdames Alfred G. Brosch,
Leo Meyer and Frank M. Wag-
ner attended the xArchdiocesan
Council of Catholic Women
Convention at Gunter Hotel in
San Antoni r- Sunday.
Eloy Rivera of Sugar Land
visited with relatives in Shiner
on Tuesday.
