Fish Fry On Top
For Friday Night
All plans are made and the
word is go for the annual
Fish Fry to be held on Friday,
April 21 at the Community
Center.
The buffet meal is catered
by Punkins of Borger which
consist of catfish, cole slaw,
hush puppies, onion rings,
tea and coffee.
Tickets for the affair will
be $4. 75 for adults and
children $3. 00.
The Volunteer Firemen is
sponsoring the event.
Gas Meter Stuck And
Destroyed By Pickup
White Deer Firemen were
called Saturday night to the
north side of town where a
pickup truck driven by Pete
Douglas ran into a city gas
meter in the alley behind the
home of Mrs. Rosie Urbanczyk.
On impact the gas meter
ignited and the pickup was
destroyed. Local firemen ex-
tinguished the blaze with the
use of chemicals.
D.P. S. officers investigated
the accident and D.W. I.
charges were filed. An est-
imated $70 damage resulted
to the City gas meter.
Dr. Jordan Grooms
To Be Evangelist
At Revival Here
Dr. Jordan Grooms was born
and reared in Greenfield, Tenn.
He received his B.A. degree
from Bethel College in Mc-
Kenzie, Tenn, his M. Div.
degree from Perkins School of
Theology’ and his D.D. degree
from McMurry College. In
addition to his fine academic
record, Dr. Grooms had done
graduate studies at the University
of Chicago Divinity School, the
University of Salamanaca in
Spain, and Gannon College in
Pennsylvania.
Dr. Grooms is a pastor well
known to many of us in the
Northwest Texas area. He has
served pastorates at Vega,
Haskell, Levelland, Lamesa,

Absentee Voting To
Continue Thru May 2
Absentee voting for the
May 6 Primary Election began
Monday, April 17, in Pan-
handle and will continue
through Tuesday, May 2.
"Votes maybe cast two ways,
by personal appearance or by
mail if proper application has
been made, " said Sue Cockrell,
Carson County Clerk.
All personal appearance
. voting must be done in the
Clerk's office on the main
floor of the courthouse during
regular 8:00 - 12:00 and 1-5
office hours, Monday through
Friday.
New state laws governing ab-
sentee balloting by mail and
emergency balloting go into
effect this year. They relate
to those 65 years of age and
older, handicapped, hospitalized
etc. Situations differ, so,
any information concerning
proper application for voting
by mail maybe obtained by
contacting the clerk's office.
Voters who. expect to be out-
of-town or who may qualify
for other reasons are urged to
remember the absentee voting
deadline, May 2 and cast
their votes early.
Vaccination
Of Pets Short
Of Last Year
Dr. Kenneth Royse was in
charge of the 1978 Rabies
Program for the City of White
Deer when animal pets received
innoculations Saturday, April
15 at the Volunteer Fire Dept
from 9 a.m. until noon.
About 55 Dog Tags were
purchased for family pets.
This number is low compared
to the number of pets vaccin-
ated in 1977. Over 100 pets -
were issued the protective
shots last year. Residents are
urged to purchase Dog Tags
at City Hall.
Proof of rabies innoculation
must be presented before the
tags can be purchased for
$2.00
Bake Sale To Be
Held For Park Fund
The Alpha Theta Omega
will be having an "old fashioned
Bake Sale at the First Bank
and Trust on Friday, April 21
at 9 a. m.
Such goodies as cakes, home-
made breads, brownies, sweet
rolls, cookies and pies will
be for sale.
All proceeds will be going
for the Park Fund for repairs
and new tables. An account
has been established at the
Bank for all persons who wish
to donate to the cause.
Mrs. Harry Hughes has donated
a beautiful hand-made afghan
to be given away on Friday
at the Bank. Anyone may pur-
chase a ticket for a small
donation from any member
of the sorority or at the Bank.
All proceeds from the afghan
sale will go the Park Fund.
First Baptist Revival
To Start Sunday Here
First Baptist Church will begin
their Spring Revival on Sunday,
April 30th.
The guest speaker will be
Dr. W. M. Shamburger of the
First Baptist Church of Tyler,
Texas. He has been pastor
there for 22 years.
Brother Carl Meyer will be
leading the music.
The revival will extend thr-
ough Wednesday evening.
Special events planned during
the revival and the services
will begin at 7:30 p. m. each
evening.
, Pastor Jim Shamburger extend
a cordial invitation to all of
the White Deer area to attend.

to participate in Regional
»UJL Literary contests in Odessa,
Saturday, April 22.

In Spelling, Cyndy Barnard
won 3rd place to qualify. Her

Susie Fox placed 2nd in
Prose Reading; her sponsor is
James H inkley.
In Journalism, Kelly Barrow
won 1st in Editorial Writing,
and Eddie Lick placed 1st in
Headline Writing. Sponsor
for these events is Laverne
Satterwhite.
In Track, Mary Sue Williams
placed 2nd in the 100 yard dash
to qualify. Her sponsor is
Coach Robert Lee.
In Tennis, Anna Cooper won
fcthe District Tourney held in
Gruver April 12- . This will
be her third time to compete
in the Regional finals. Her
sponsor is Miss Lometa Odom.
This number of students is
the largest to qualify for
Regional UIL Literary contests
in recent history.
Students and sponsors will go
by bus to Odessa to participate
in these contests.
Overall point winners in
District UIL Literary contests
were Gruver, 1st with 105
points, Stratford, 2nd with
* 94 points and White Deer,
3rd with 80 points.
Mr. and Mrs. D0L. Nichol-
son of White Deer are the
proud parents of a baby daughter
born Thursday, April 13 in
Highland General Hospital
in Pampa. She weighed 7 lbs.
9 oz., 21 1/2 inches long and
has been named Rebecca '
Lynn. Grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Lutz of Amarillo,
Nick Nicholson and Windy
Nicholson of Amarillo . Great-
grandparents include Mrs.
Sarah Cushion of Pampa and
M?. and Mrs. Russell Nichol-
son of White Deer.
Square Dance Meding
There will be a meeting on
Thursday, April 27, at 7:30
p. m. in the First Bank and
Trust Hospitality Room for
all teenagers and adults interes-
ted in forming a summer
square dance program. Around
15 to 20 free lessons will be
given with small monthly
dues of approximately $1.50.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rose,
qualified square dance teachers
of Pampa will meet with the
gioup. All parents and young
persons are urged to attend .
Monty Carrol I Selected
To Head Student Body
Monty Carroll, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Thad Carroll of
White Deer has been chosen
by the student body at White
Deer High School to be the
Student Council President for
1978-79.
Monty is a sandy haired,
blue eyed young man who will
be a senior next year. He has
been in Student Council for
three years, President of
freshman and sophomore class,
member of National Honor
Society, Fellowship of Christ-
ian Athletes, Future Teachers
of America, Future Scientists

who will be five years before
September 1st, please notify
the White Deer Elementary
School so that the school can
send them an invitation to
Spring Round-Up on May 1st.
These kindergarten age child-
ren will be pre-enrolled at
this time. Your help will be
