White Deer Ministers —
Spiritual Concern
This weeks column was sub-
mitted by Rev. Stan Cosby
I believe Jesus was the epit-
ome of manhood(He also was
the epitome of Godhood). He
blistered his hands- with a car-
penter's tool. He burned his
face in the wind and sun of
Palestine. He muscled his body
with the rigors of manuel lab-
or. He nerved his spine with
steel in the furnace of hatred,
misunderstanding, and opposit-
ion.
I see him there. Determined
eyes. His face set with hard-
ened lines of courage. Strong
hands uprooting the tables of
usury. Coins flying like clods
in a school boy's war. "Make
not my Father's house a den
of Thieves," he thundered.
"It shall be called the house
of prayer !" More guts than a
Missouri mule!
But he did some things that
bust the image of masculinity
some of us have today:
(1) He took time for little
children. Not spotless "Gerber"
babies but snotty nosed urchins,
spoiled brats, love-hungry kids.
He held them and made a
place in his life for them.
(2) He wept. Tears-rivers of
grief and feeling coursed down
his face. Stoics are not strong
but they are unreal. But Jesus
felt and loved and wept as
only a real man could.
(3) He embraced and was em-
braced by other men. Some-
thing's wrong with a society
that sees men who aren't af-
raid to embrace each other as
a little on the "weird" side.
Jesus loved and often his love
was expressed through touch.
(4) He surrendered without a
fight. For every thing there is
a season. Some time we ought
to fight. Sometimes we ought
not to fight. Sometimes it
takes greater courage to drop
a fight than to go through
with one. Though he could
have called ten thousands
angels, Jesus went to the cross
alone. Like the sacrificial
lamb he submitted himself to
the slaughter.
In the light of his true mas-
culinity, some of our notions
about manhood like "a man
never crys, " "a man never
feels, " " a man never shows
emotion, " " a man never
surrenders, " are better des-
criptions for a machine than
a man. Fraces de Sales once
said: "There is nothing so
strong as gentleness, and not-
hing as gentle as real strength. "
Now that's real masculinity
as Jesus lived it. With His help,
I can live it too.

Ellen and Harvester Church of
Christ was the hostess to ladies
from Amarillo, Borger, Miami,
Clarendon, Mobeetie, Pampa,
Skellytown and White Deer.
There were two hundred ladies
in attendance.
The after dinner speaker was
Mrs. David (Pat) Baker of

She advised women to arise in
the nation, the church and the
home. In addition to being a
housewife, Mrs. Baker advised
women that there were places
for them to fill in benevolent
work, foster home care, hos-
pital ministry, bus ministry
and the golden age ministry.
In addition to beinh a speaker,
