Safety Seeking Recruits
The Texas Department of
Public Safety is now recru-
iting young men and women
for the position of uniformi —
ed troopers. These persons
who qualify in the age bra-
cket from 20 through 30 ye-
ars of age, who are of good
moral character, excellent
physical condition and
now have 60 hours of colle-
ge credit will be palced in
the next trooprs class June
7, 1977.
The Department of Public
Safety is actively seeking
applicants from minority
groups to fill positions dur-
ing the next recruit school.
Excellent opportunities
exist for females, Blacks
and Mexican-Americans.
The recruit school is held
in Austin at the Homer
Garrison Law Enforcement
Academy and will last 4
andl/2 months. The train-
ing is designed to equip
cadets to handle any of the
various situations they may
encounter as a state trooper
for the Texas Department
of Public Safety. The start-
ing salary for the recruit
while in training will be
$820. 00 a month.
After graduation as a
commissioned las enforce-
ment offecer, the monthly
salary increases to $936. 00
and at the end of six months
the s alary increases to
$1, 000. 00. State troopers
recieve additional longevi-
ty pay for each year ot ser-
vice up to 25 years of ser-
vice. Other benefits incl-
ude uniforms, vehicles,
weapons and ammunition
furnished by the State of
Texas. Life insurnace and
hospitalization are paid for
the employee and depend-
ent comerage is available
at reasonable rates. Paid
vacations, holidays and sick
leave are provided to all
state employees.

made to Highway Patrol,
License & Weight Service,
Motor Vehicle Inspection
t Service or Drivers License
Service upon graduation
from recruit schooL Exper-
ienced uniformed troopers
may apply for appointment
positions in Narcotics,
Intelligence and Texas
Ranger services when open-
ings occur.’

Deer has been named to
Who's Who Among Students
In American Junior Coll-
eges.
A sophomore at Clarendon
College following a general
course of study, Tina is
. the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. A. E. Rhoads. Tina
graduated from White
Deer high School in 197 5.
Mrs. Randel Honored
By Historical Comm.
Mrs. Ralph Randel of Pan-
handle, Chairman of the
Carson County Historical
Commission, has been award-
ed a Certificate of Commen-
dation by the Texas Histor-
ical Commission (THC).
Mrs. Randel is among 39
persons honored by the THC
for serving more than ten
consecutive years as Chair-
men of their respective Co-
unty Historical Commissions.
The chairmen were recog-
nized during ceremonies at
the County Chairman's
Workshop, held here April
1-2. The workshop'was spon-
ored by the THC for county
chairmen from throughout
the state.
The Texas Historical Com-
mission is the official state
agency for historic preservat-
ion. Its programs include ar-
cheological investigations;
history museum consultation;
the marking of historic sites
and landmarks; and the ad-
minstration of the National
Historic Preservation Act
in Texas.
These activities ara car-
ried out or coordinated at
the grassroots level by a
network of county historical
commissions. In citing the
39 chairmen who have served
in that capacity for more
than ten consecutive years,
the THC lauds the dedica-
tion and vigorous leadership
which they have brought to
the cause of historic preser-
vation in Jexas.
Visits In White Deer
St. Theresa Parish
Annual Bar-B-Q Date
The annual fund raising
barbeque sponsored by St.
Theresa's Parish, Panhandle,
is slated for Sunday, April
24, according to E. J. Zamora,
chairman of the event.
Serving time is 11:30a. m.
to 3:30 p. m. in the Parish
Hall in Panhandle.
The menu consists of
Texas grain feed beef, all
choice prime rounds of hind
quarters, an especially pre-
pared secret receipe barbe-
que sauce, red beans, cab-
bage slaw, potatoe salad,
apricots, pickles and onions
and delicious homemade
bread.
At 3:00 p. m. a drawing
will be held for a processed
half of beef, a Cobra CB
radio, an electronic Pong
game and a $25 savings bond.
Tickets for the dinner are
priced at $3 for adults and
children ages 5-12 years for
$1. 75 with under 5 free.
Handmade aits and crafts
made by the children's home
and St. Anns Home will be
available.
The ladies of the parish
will host a Country Store
with many delicious cakes
and pies. The CYO will
have a fish pond.
Visits In White Deer
Mr. and Mrs. E. M.
Clabom of Zephax were
week-end guests of Mrs.
Lee Royce Lockridge,
also visiting was Melanie
Lockridge of Amarillo and
Tom Porter.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Woods
and children of Amarillo
spent the weekend with Mrs.
Wood's parents, the Miller
Hawpes.
Visit Pilgrinimage
Mr. and Mrs. John Morris
visited in Fort Worth, Hou-
ston, and Austin and also
attened the Pilgrimage
in Natchez, Miss.
Grandson Injured
Michael King, 15 year old
son of Mr. Jim King and
| grandson of Mr. and Mrs.
Eddie Kalka was in an ac-
cident on April 3. 58 stitches
were required to close a cut
on his heel. He is to be bed-
fast for three weeks and will
be out of school for the rest
of the year. ,
