We have learned she is now at
home and doing nicely.
Mrs. C. A. Karnes is a guest
of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Perry. The

local hospital and their health
has improved satisfactorily at

New Home spent the weekend

According to the government
rain gauge kept here by Harry
Allen, volunteer observer, a to-
tal of 3.40 inches of rain fell
in Goldthwaite during the
month of January this year,
with seven inches of snow and
sleet on January 12, 13 and 14
adding approximately another
three and one-half inches.
Ellis Mahan of the U. S. Ma-
atime Service, St. Petersburg,
Florida, arrived Saturday morn-
ing to spend a ten day furlough
with his parents. Mr. and Mrs.
W. L. Mahan.
Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Horton
took their son, Allen, to College
Station Thursday, where he en-
tered A*M College.
Mrs. Harry Wayland and Mrs.
Sallle Arhelger of San Saba
spent Sunday afternoon with
their uncle. J. D. Urquhart and
Mrs. Urquhart.

the Fort Worth Livestock Show
by Karen Horton, 2-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. V.
Horton, Jr., of Goldthwaite. was
reserve grand
Hereford steer of the
open show last week. The steer
sold for $1,400.
Roger Sanders and Eugene
Williams, Mullin, took top hon-
ors in exhibiting lambs at the
Fort Worth Livestock Show.
Sanders exhibited the grand
champion lamb at the show
while Williams had the champ-
ion wool lamb.
Williams exhibited in the
club show while Sanders took
his honors from the open show.
Shirlie Saylor, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Saylor, has
enrolled at Tarleton State Col-
lege for the Spring semester.
She is a sophdmore business
administrative student and a
1957 graduate of Goldthwaite
High School.
The old American Legion
Hall was the meeting place on
Saturday night, January 31,
1959, at 7:30 o’clock for a group
of men from Comanche and
Brownwood and a large group
of interested parties here, who
met for the purpose of organis-
ing an I. O. O. F. Lodge in Gold-
thwaite for Mills County.
Contributions to the March of
Dimes fund were $1,168.80 just
before Wednesday noon, ac-
cording to W. C. Barnett, Audit
committee.
The Choir of the Houston-
Tillotson College, Austin,
(Negro), will have an entire
evening Worship Service in the
Goldthwaite Methodist Church.

Judge H. E. White and wife
arrived Thursday from Green-
wood. South Carolina, and will
again make Goldthwaite their
home, which is delightful in-
formation to their many
friends.
The announcement of the
death of Mr. Fredrick Dew last
Sunday night at his home a few
miles west of Mullin, carried
sorrow whereever he was
known, for he was one of Mills
County's best and most valued
citizens — one in whom his
friends trusted and on whom
all actuated by the right could
depend.
Dr. J. Wes Carson of Brown-
wood and Ambrose Carson of
Douglas, Arizona, were here this
week visiting W. T. Keese and
family and other friends.
A party was given to Misses
Viola Lucas and Wlnnye Carter
one night last week by Mr. and
Mrs. W. W. Langford. Several
