Census report shows that 366
bales of cotton were ginned in
Mills County from the crop of
1943 prior to September 16th as
compared with 27 bales for the
new crop.—L. E. Booker, Special
Agent.
Final tabulations will show
that Mills County citizens top-
ped the county quota by 820.000,
according to Grover Dalton,
treasurer. By 10:00 a. m„ of the
first day Mills County had made
her quota. There were numerous
small bond buyers during all of
September, and Mr. Dalton
states that sales are now around
81.000 a day.

Mrs. L. D. Springer
Held In Fort Worth
Funeral services for Mrs. L.
D. (Myrtle Braselton) Springer
of Fort Worth, were held in
Gause-Ware Memorial Chapel,
Fort Worth. August 17, 1968.
Services were conducted by Rev
Jim Anderson and Interment
was in Laurel Land. She passed
away August 14 in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Springer was married to
Lonzo Springer in Goldthwaite
August 8, 1908. They were for-
mer residents of Goldthwaite,
Star, Evant and Hamilton. She
was preceded in death by her
husband February 12, 1962.
Survivors are two daughters,
Mrs. L. J. Ramsey and Mrs. M.
H Blacklock, both of Fort
Worth; a son, Roy G. Springer,
Sacramento, California; a sister,
Mrs. L. C. Gayle, Pasadena; and
a brother, Frank Brazelton, San
Angelo.

Fine rains have fallen in all
parts of the county this week,
insuring winter pasture and do-
ing a great amount of good for
the small grain fields, as well
as putting a good season in the
ground. ■
Rev. W. R. White, who to at
Camp Taylor, Louisville, Ken-
tucky, has been sick for some
days and a message was receiv-
ed here the early part of the
week announcing that he was in
the hospital. A message yester-
day brought the pleasing infor-
mation that he was much im-
proved and would soon be well.
Harman Adair and family
have moved from Big Valley to
Garland, Dallas County. They
are going to try living out of
Mills County one year, but have
no Intention of remaining away
permanently. Their many
friends in the county wish for
them the best of fortune in
their new home.
Mr. M. C. Humphries to the
recepient of a giant sweet po-
tato sent by his old time friend
and neighbor, Judge H. T.
White, who now resides in
Greenwood, S C. Mr Humphries
divided the potato among three
of his neighbors, who were for-
merly neighbors of Mr. White,
all of whom enjoyed the fine
flavored potato. Mr. Humphries
also received fine specimens of
pears, weighing one pound each.
Walter and Ed Brown have
been harvesting their peanut
crop on the Sharp farm, north
of town this week and are well
pleased with the yield. On 26
acres they will gather about 300
bushels, besides a vast amount
of hay.
Mrs. Bolinger, wife of Mr. Joe
Bolinger, died at the family
home In Regency community,
just across the river in San
Saba County, Wednesday night,
after a short illness with in-
fluenza.

Don Geeslin, local turkey
farm owner, was the first to
volunteer and notify school of-
ficials that he will purchase one
complete band uniform as In-
terest in securing new band uni-
forms for Goldthwaite High
School started to gain momen-
tum.
Mills County Jail building was
treated this week to a new roof,
which has been a much needed
repair project for some time.
Mrs. Lillian Stokes, RN school
nurse. Mrs. Pearl Long. RN, and
Mrs Robert Doak, LVN, all of
Goldthwaite, attended a Heart
Seminar held in Brownwood last
Saturday and Sunday.
Mrs Philip Nlekoto and 24 of
her Fifth Grade pupils of Gold-
thwaite Elementary School vis-
ited the Eagle Office Monday
afternoon to see how a news-
paper is made. Those visiting
the Eagle were:
Tom Duren, Tommy Hudson,
Jimmy Carter, Gene Williams
Jim Childress, Vernon Weide-
busch, Lee Robertson, Mike
Petty, Leamon Ables.
Kames. Ronnie Hill,
House. John Basham,
Hamilton. Jerome Hall,
Sutherland, Anita Rhoades,
Patti Chapin, Margaret Ann
Stokes and Carol Straley.
Mrs. L. B. Porter returned
home Tuesday after spending
some time In Marlin with her
mother, Mrs. J. L. Meres. Mrs.
Meres, who is 84 yeans of age,
was visiting her daughter. Mrs.
Frank Walker at Lott, Texas,
when she fell, breaking her
neck. She was carried back to
her daughter's home at Lott
and Mrs. Porter returned home.
Boys’ 4-H Clubs for 1959, were
organized during September at
Star, Mullin. Priddy, and Gold-
thwaite. A total of 88 boys are
carrying sheep, goats, beef cat-
tle. poultry and swine for pro-
jects.

Funeral services for Y. E. i a member of the First Baptist
Hoover, 78, of Goldthwaite were Church of Goldthwaite and a

many years.
On June 4, 1911 he was mar-
ried to Maudie Trousdale at
Kempner, Texas.

Maudie Hoover of Goldthwaite;
one son, Howard Hoover of
Goldthwaite; a grandson, Dr.
Mike Hoover, Goldthwaite; and
