greatest event of the convention, and
it is indeed seldom that one has an op-

on such a lavish scale. A wonderful
stage showing a panorama of gorgeous

been ereeted tor the event, and no ex-
panse was spared to produce a pa-
geant worthy of the great East Texas
Chamber of Commerce and depicting
in brilliant allegory the various activi-
ties of A. & M. The lighting arrange-

light sweeping the entire field and in
the rear of the stage a splendid dis-

of the scene.

The speaker was the red-headed gov-
ernor, Dan Moody, who characterized
the lexas system as a "breeding
ground for the most loathsome and
horrible diseases. Our prison system
manufactures instead of reforms crim-
inals’, Moody said.
Moody began his address by declar-
ing he was not trying to lake advant-
age of the hundred legislators who ac-
companied him from Austin. His ad-
dress was the first public expression
of such a bitter attack on the penal in-
stitutions. He also discussed state
highways.
