THE LITTLE BOOK
THAT TELLS A
BIG STORY—

I dislike to part with the green leaves of :he trees that have shaded me
on the hot summer days, and so see them fall, evm in their garbs of glorious
color, and yet it does not make me sad. I love the pungent smell of the fall-
ing autumn leaves. Tonight I came home in the rai k Leave* were cast about
the walk* to my doorstep, but their fragrance waa like meeting an old friend-
gala opening. The aerodrome and ex-
position quarters will cover an area of
110,000 square feet.
Still another patient, not at all loath to admit her peculiarity, announc-
ed that she never left home without seven pocket handkerchiefs. Experience
had taught her that she would need them all for mopping her face, because of
her peculiar affliction. She, too, was persuaded that she had simply fastened
an awkward reflex on herself, and soon had her laundry bill reduced to proper
proportion*. -
One of my patients, a woman of 50, waa in constant fear of taking cold,
for she was liable at the most unexpected moment to break out into a dtip-
ping perspiration all over the body. The big drop* would suddenly appear on
the back* of her hand* and gather in little pools under her eye* and in the
hollow* of the neck as she lay on her bed. I persuaded her to do four things;
namely, to leave off watching for the perspiration; to throw back the bed
covers instead of drawing them closer when she felt the first little sign of the
deluge; to go about her work just as other women did; and never to let any-

sense she acted on the cue I had’ given her and became completely free.
Where Service Is Combined
With Comfort and
Consideration
I love the distinctive four seasons of the year. I love the snows of Febru-
ary, the winds of March and the gentle breezes of May that bend the young
•terns of our earliest flowers of the field. And I love summer with all its gift*
of beauty in full bloom. But autumn is the golden *ea»on of the year to me.
I revel in the riot of color* that appear—especially in October—theQueen
month. It thrills me to haunt the fields, far from my office and the ring* of
the telephone. Out there I would glory in the intoxication of the crisp autumn
air and the odor of the dying year.

Early in our school book* we reau ot ' th* melancholy days, the saddest

they are the happiest of the year. _

By injecting a sense of humor into the situation; by seeing that the joke
is on them in that they have established a wrongly conditioned reflex; by
learning to keep cool even when displaying the awkward reflex at its worst,
they will soon get their innocent but offending sweat glands back into good
working order. Give this recipe a genuine trial and I shall soon receive a

In cases of this sort it is not Nature that is at fault, and the cure is with-
in the power of the afflicted reflexes, such a* nervous sweating, can be re-

contented, our days are days of bliss; no land has been in-

and rushing storms no more. Sometimes I’d be piloting in
regions deep in snow, where arctic winds are hooting and
freezing as they blow. Half dozing in the shadow of my

but wish that I might capture a sample of its tail. When quiet is unbroken as ’
seasons come and go, we long to see some token of elemental woe. We tire of
gentle zephyr* and long to see a breeze that would take mules and heifers
