overflow parking area, then
entered the park and walked
through every single pathway person, a 20 year war veteran,
of Sea World, ending back at
overflow parking. It seemed to
go faster this year,
guessing it's because we
weren't moving at a snail's
pace along a cramped side-
walk like years past. We actu-
ally had room to spread out.
Since the walk was inside Sea
World, people didn't get to
bring their dogs along like they
have before. The only dogs
allowed were service dogs.
The Texas A&M AgriLife
Extension Service will be host-
ing a Cooking School entitled
Cooking Up a Holiday: Diabetic
Style. The event will be held at
the First United Methodist
Church on Tuesday, November
19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Cost for the event is $20.
Janet Nelson, County
Extension Agent for Family and
Consumer Sciences, will be
preparing a variety of recipes
that can be utilized during the
holiday season. Participants
will be sampling recipes pre-
pared and will learn tips on eat-
ing healthy without blowing
■ your diet.
■ Cookbooks and door prizes
a will be available during the
evening. You do not have to
have diabetes to benefit from
this event. Call the Extension
office no later than Monday,
November 18th to reserve a
spot. If you have any ques-
tions, please call Janet at the
Extension office, 625-4519.
• i This has been a very busy fall
] for Xavier and me. We’ve had
3 the usual school events, plus
Xavier has been playing
YMCA youth football and that
takes up very Saturday.
He is in the “Heavyweight”
division and his team is all
Ballinger kids and called (what
else?) Ballinger Bearcats, but
the games are all on
Saturdays in San Angelo.
Thankfully the two or three
practices each week are done
in Ballinger. The final game
will be November 17th.
We had a huge amount of
excitement this past weekend.
Gabby, my 5 year old
Pembroke Welsh Corgi, had a
litter of six puppies on
Saturday. She "birthed" the
first three with no problem, but
the rest had to have some vet-
erinarian assistance in

Team Cade participated in their
7th Walk to Cure Diabetes on
Saturday, October 19 at Sea
World San Antonio. It was
without question the coldest
walk so far. We all had on long
sleeves and jackets. Our pre-
vious diabetes walks in San
Antonio have started at the
Alamodome and wound
through riverwalk area and
HemisFair Plaza. However,
due to renovations in this area,
the walk had to be moved, and
Sea World agreed to let JDRF
hold it there. We started in the

out with Gabby. Oh, and
Xavier is very excited we have
babies again.
From Maureen Duncan:
HM and Maureen Duncan left
Talpa for Scottsdale Arizona
last week. They drove through
the beautiful Sacramentc
Mountains to Las Cruces and
spent the night before continu-
ing on 1-10 to Arizona.
They attended the
Presidential Briefing for Child
Evangelism Fellowship which
was held at the JW Marriott
Camelback Inn in Scottsdale
They heard inspiring speakers
and music and rested in the
comfortable rooms at the Inn.
Did I mention the food? It was
outstanding!
Thanks to Judy Dunn and
Glenda Gassiot for taking the
Good News Club in Talpa.
HM and Maureen headed
back to Texas on Sunday and
managed to get through El
Paso before spending the
night. It was a good trip.
One item of interest was a
sign in a rest area in Texas
which read “Watch out foi
snakes.” Don’t we have
enough snakes in the country
without having them imported
in the restrooms too? HM said
He didn’t see the sign...glad
there wasn’t a snake it would
have bitten him.
Speaking of bites, there are
more than a few brown
recluse spiders at this time oi
year. One of the best reme-
dies is the clear ammonia (nol
the yellow kind).
