Captain Schmitt, Durbin,

arrived at the old camp about
day break. Tompkins soon
made his appearance and
showed the Rangers two trails
that led to the ranch house.
Tompkins was very nervous
and cautioned the Rangers
against shooting him by
mistake He told them he had
planned to ride ahead of
Crenshaw so he would be more
easily identified and he would
be smoking a pipe.
January 17, at dusk, the
Rangers heard the horses on the
trail Tompkins was careful
that he could be identified as his
little pipe was producing a huge
amount of smoke. Tompkins
rode past the concealed Ranger,
Grimes rose from behind a bush
and ordered Crenshaw to hold

Tompkins said. "Bud. these are
Rangers.” Durbin on the op-
posite side of the trail repeated
their identity. Crenshaw said,
"Alright.” He then wh eled his

Americo Cantu 26 - Cotulla 3.
After two years of competing
against the Pettus Eagles the
Cowboys have been able to
contain all of the Eagles except
for Cantu.
The ledger on the Eagles
great runningback after two
contests reads like this: 37
carries for 316 yards (8.5 yard
average), two extra points and
four touchdowns
The Eagles grabbed off the
opening kickoff and ran it to
their 20. On the first play from
scrimmage Cantu was drop-
ped for a 3 yard loss On second
down they went to him again
and he responded with an 83
yard jaunt to paydirt. The extra
point try failed and, with less
than a minute gone in the
opening stanza, the Eagles held
a 6-0 lead
Midway through the second
quarter Cotulla put points on the
board when they tackled the
Pettus punter on his own 22

“Our cause is a very im-
portant one. Lung diseases kill
more children in this nation
than any other disease except
cancer,” said Sharon Me-
Clenny, chairman of the
campaign "Cystic Fibrosis is
the number one genetic killer of
children, and approximately 4C
percent of persons suffering
from C-F are not yet
diagnosed.”
According to Mrs McClenny,
contributions to the Kiss a Baby
Campaign will help support a
national network of over 100
Cystic Fibrosis Centers,
research projects around the
world and various educational
programs.
Cystic Fibrosis Centers, most
located at teaching hospitals
affiliated with leading medical
schools and universities,
provide diagnosis, treatment,
and referral to children suf-
fering from cystic fibrosis,
asthma, chronic bronchitis,
bronchiectasis, “childhood
emphysema" and recurrent
pneumonia
Hospitals dealing with
grastrointestinal disorders
related to C-F are located in
Dallas, Houston and San An-
tonio.
“Through research we hope
to find a cure and control for
cystic fibrosis,” said Mrs.
McClenny. “Another goal of the
research program is developing
better methods of treating
children with all lung-damaging
diseases.”
“Most of the funds that are
raised in the Kiss a Baby
Campaign go to these very
important national programs,”
she said “But, almost 50
percent of the monies stay in
this Chapter area to support
services for local children with
cystic fibrosis and other lung-
damaging diseases ”
Cystic Fibrosis affects one out
of every 1,500 infants bom each
year. Although incurable,
