Santa Claus a sad town
with killing of children
SANTA CLAUS, Ga. (AP) —
The homes are on roads with
names like Noel Lane and Dasher
Street. Welcome signs at either
end of town show a waving Santa
Claus and the slogan: “The city
that loves children.”
Ip Santa Claus, this is usually a
time of holiday cheer. Instead, the
small town is stunned and baffled
by the killings of a pair of foster
parents and their own two chil-
dren.
“It’s an awful time of year for
something like this,” said Mary
Galbreath, taking a break from
putting together a wooden rein-
deer on her front yard. “Anytime
is a bad time.”
Danny and Kim Daniels, their
16-year-old daughter, Jessica, and
8-year-old son, Bryant, were
killed by someone who broke into
their house while they slept. Their
two other daughters and a foster
daughter were abducted from the
home, while two other foster chil-
dren, 10 months and 4 years old,
were left unharmed.
A farmer found the girls walk-
ing along an isolated dirt road
some 40 miles from the house.
Information from the children led
investigators to Jerry Scott Hei-
dler, who was arrested at a rela-
tive’s house in Alma.
Heidler, 20, was charged with
murder, kidnapping and burglary.
He was scheduled to appear in
court today.
Authorities said they were still
investigating and released few
details. They said they weren’t
sure what led to the killings,
which apparently happened some-
time before daybreak Thursday.
“We do not think it was a ran-
dom attack. We know that he did
know them,” said prosecutor Rick
Malone. “They had seen him
from time to time in the commu-
nity.”
Wish everyone a happy holiday. Spread the joy of
Christmas to all your patrons and employees with an
ad on Christmas Morning.
Ad deadline is Monday, December 15 for our popu-
lar greeting section.
Call today to save your ad space.
