Lamar Elemental? campus to open after Thanksgiving
Lamar Elementary School stu-
dents will return from the Thanks-
giving holidays to a brand-new
school.
Construction is complete on the
facility, which was funded by the
Successful 1994 bond issue, and
moye-in is scheduled for Nov. 25
through 29. .
Lamar students will have an
extra two days of vacation on Mon-
day and Tuesday, Dec. 2 and 3, as
the teachers and staff members pre-
pare the school to welcome stu-
dents.
The first day of classes in the
new building will be Wednesday,
Dec. 4.
The schedule will remain the
same as before, with breakfast
served at 7:30 a.m. and morning
announcements beginning at 7:55
a.m. Staff members are on duty to
supervise students beginning at
7:30 a.m.
Parents and buses will drop off
students on Green Street, where
staff members and security officers
will be on duty to direct students to
the cafeteria (for breakfast) or gym.
All students will assemble in the
gym by 7:45 a.m.
Because available parking spaces
are temporarily limited, visitors
who need to park should do so
across Pruett Street in the Seventh
Day Adventist Church parking lot.
Afternoon dismissal will be at
3:20 p.m. Car riders will be picked
up outside the cafeteria on Green
Street, where staff members will be
on duty.
Parents are asked to have posters
with their child’s name visible for
staff members to see for a faster
flow of traffic.
Because buses will be loaded
outside die school on Adoue Street,
drivers are asked to avoid Adoue
Street in the afternoon.
Morning pre-K and kindergarten
car riders should be picked up at
the Adoue Street driveway at 11
a.m., and afternoon pre-K and
kindergarten car riders should be
dropped off at the Adoue Street
driveway at 12:20 pm.
A change at the new facility is
that afternoon kindergarten stu-
; dents will no longer eat lunch at
school.
Bus service will continue for stu-
dents living on Columbia,
Grantham, Gresham, Harold,
Inwood, Kelly, Lloyd, Morrell,
Northwood, Pamela, Park, River-
bend and Schilling.
Bus service will also continue,
for students attending special edu-
cation classes who have been
receiving bus service.
Parents will have the opportunity
to tour the new facility the evening
of Thursday, Dec. 12, following the
scheduled Parent-Teacher Organi-
zation meeting.

Rainfall down 1.7 inches from normal
An average of 2.6 inches of
rain fell over Baytown in Octo-
ber — 1.7 inches below the
monthly norm.
According to records from
the Baytown Emergency Man-
agement Department, the
Exxon refinery received the
most rainfall, with 3.2 inches
for the month, and Chevron
recorded the least with 2.1
inches.
Oct. 24 was the rainiest day
of the month, with 2.0 inches at
the Exxon refinery, and 1.2
inches at the East District
Sewage Plant.
Oct. 25 was the second raini-
est day, with 1.7 inches falling
at Cabaniss Avenue and 1.5
inches at Harvey Street.
Baytown’s year-to-date rain-
fall average is 40.9 inches, or
2.1 inches below normal.

in Thanksgiving Day parade ‘
Brittany L. Campbell has been
invited to represent the San Jacinto
Giri Scout Council to march in the
Bank United
Thanksgiving
Day Parade on
Thursday, Nov.
28.
The parade
will be held in
the downtown
Houston area
with a route

A. Campbell and Deborah Gonza-
lez, and granddaughter of Ana
Maria Gonzalez. She is also the,
great-niece of Maria and Victoria;
Salas.
Brittany is a third-grader at
Harlem Elementary. She has par-
ticipated in Baytown’s Fourth o£
July Parade, Christmas Parade;
Highlands Jamboree Parade and
Houston’s Fiestas Patrias Parade.
She also does volunteer work
that covers 25 Brittany Campbell
city blocks.
The parade route begins at Smith
and Walker, ends at Louisiana and
Walker. The theme is “Once Upon
a Time” storybook theme.
Brittany is from Girl Scout
Troop No. 7005 in Baytown. She
with her grandmother Ana Maria
Gonzalez at the Baytown Hospice
Center. Brittany also enjoys run-
ning in the Jingle Bell Run, which,
supports the YMCA for area chil-
dren and has assisted the Universi-
ty of Houston Alumni Association
with “Operation School Supplies.”-
