Charity has one less
blessing from senator
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A
charity founded by Pat Robert-
son doesn’t have the blessing of
one legislator.
Sen. Janet Howell hopes to
strip tax-exempt status from Oper-
ation Blessing, criticized last year
after reports that the religious
broadcaster, psed the charity’s
planes for his diamond-mining
venture in Congo.
But Howell, D-Fairfax, said she
would move soon to deny a five-
year extension of the Virginia
sales tax exemption granted to
Operation Blessing.
“People across this country
were donating to help the poor
and hungry, and Pat Robertson
was profiting personally,” Howell
said. Robertson spokesmen said
he has ended the diamond venture
and has reimbursed Operation
Blessing, a program to provide
care for the ill in the Third World,
for the use of the planes.
Robertson attorney Vincent
Mastracco Jr. said the nonprofit v'
status of Operation Blessing is
“absolutely a no-brainer” since
European royals gather
to honor Queen Beatrix
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands
(AP) — More than a dozen Euro-
pean royals and other foreign and
Dutch dignitaries descended on
Amsterdam for Queen Beatrix’s
60th birthday Saturday.
On Dam Square outside the
palace in the heart of the city,
giant photos of the popular queen
greeted onlookers who were lined
enough to chew with his role in
“Desperate Measures.”
Keaton, formerly “Batman” and
“Mr. Mom,” plays psychopathic
killer Peter McCabe in the movie
that opened Friday.
Keaton calls it his “pretty thick .
pork chop role.”
“I guess I just like a nice big
cafeteria, a smorgasbord. Yeah,
I’ll take a little of this, a little of
that.” ,a „
He expanded the character from
a hyper, super-intelligent guy to
someone physically powerful as
well.
“It makes him more of a mon-
ster. If he doesn’t outsmart you, he
will destroy you,” Keaton said in
ah interview this week.
The movie is the story of a San
Francisco cop searching for a
compatible bone marrow donor
for his gravely ill son. McCabe is
the perfect DNA match, but he’s
safely behind bars.

Three musical groups
arrested in restaurant
GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP)—
Ten members of Insane Clown •
Posse and two other music groups
were arrested Friday in a restau-
rant brawl in which an 18-year-old
man was beaten, police said.
“They said the victim had made
a rude comment about one of their
mothers,” Police Chief Rick Hoy
said. “I don’t know if he really
said anything to them or not, but
he probably shouldn’t have. There
was just him—and 10 of these
other guys.”
Police arrested Joseph E
Bruce, 25, whose stage name
with Insane Clown Posse is Vio-
lent J, on a battery charge. His
rap partner, Joseph Williams,
wasn’t arrested.
Two of their extras were among
those arrested. j ?
