Kmart Corp. Vice President of
Advertising and Marketing Larry
Davis said of the chain, “I’m
proud of this company. Two years
ago things looked pretty weak.
We’ve remodeled more than 500
stores this year. We’ve got Martha
Stewart, Sesame Street, and we’re
on TV”
The new Big Kmart was sched-
uled to hold its grand opening Sat-
urday.
Former 25-year Kmart employ-
ee Dot Ganson, who came to
watch the ribbon-cutting, was sur-
prised by Conrad, who asked her
to cut the ribbon.
In Texas alone, Kmart Corp,
opened 23 Big Kmarts on Friday,
including one in Baytown.
“Big K” had its ribbon-cutting
ceremony immediately before its
daily opening on Friday.
During the ceremony, store
manager Larry Conrad announced
some of the new Attractions for
customers at Big K, which is the
new name for Baytown’s Kmart
store.
Among the changes: wider
aisles for easier shopping, chil-
dren’s wear closer to the front for
the busy moms, consumables all
in one area, and a new line of
necessity groceries.
“We have the word ‘Big’ on the
outside to let people know there’s
something new on the inside,”
Conrad said. “It’s a big differ-
ence.”
