stocker cattle enterprises in relation to the current drought and for
overall ranch diversification. y
“This summer’s spotty rains have heavily influenced how West

said Dr. Bruce Carpenter, District Livestock Specialist.” All of West
Texas still has a lot of healing to do. Some folks have had enough
rain to get back into the game, others are thinking about it, and
sadly, some are still forced to watch from the sidelines, hoping for
some moisture and a fresh start next spring or summer. For a variety
of reasons some type of a stocker enterprise may be attractive to
producers looking to diversify their beef operations; either short-
term or long-term.
