The sugar beet industry owes its
beginning to Napolean Bonaparte.
Cut off from sugar producing
countries, he ordered his scientists
to develop a substitute for cane
sugar. They developed the
methods for producing beet sugar.
There are certain queer times and
occasions in this strange mixed af-
fair we call life when a man takes
he whole universe for a vast parcti-
cal joke, though the wit there of he
but dimly discerns, and more than
suspects that the joke is at
nobody’s expense but his own.-

Alphabet writing activities seem
to be taking Room 21 by storm.
Mrs. Bradford’s new second
graders love writing. Last week,
they described a special visitor who
gave them magic, golden writing
pencils.
Mr. Russell’s class is off to a quick
start this year. His science classes
have been learning about the scien-
tific process. They will now begin
to apply this new knowledge to the
study of plants. They will par-
ticipate in many interesting ac-
tivities to see what makes plants
grow and reproduce other plants.
This week Mrs. Bethea’s 5th

Weight Loss
Mystery
Baffles Scien-
tists
WASHINGTON - Scientists are
baffled by a natural food ingredient
that caused people to lose weight
even though they were instructed not
to alter normal eating patterns.
Although other scientists and stud-
ies may not agree, a study published
in The British Journal of Nutrition
found that the ingredient, a natural
plant colloid, can cause significant
weight loss. Several explanations for
the weight loss are suggested, but the
most likely according to scientists in
a Finnish study, is that colloids seem
to decrease the intestinal absorption
of calories. However, universal ac-
ceptance of this theory will depend
on further study.
National Dietary Research, an or-
ganization committed to the research
and development of nutritional solu-
tions to world-wide health problems,
has successfully isolated and incor-
porated a series of coUoids into a
unique food tablet called Food Source
One.. A significant breakthrough in
nutritional weight control. Food
Source One provides a scientifically
designed method for weight loss.
When used as directed, Food Source
One replaces high calorie fats with
lower calorie nutrients, thereby pro-
viding optimum nutrition with a
miniunum number of fat calories.
According to a study in the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition, you do
not need to restrict the amount of
food you eat to lose weight, just the
fat.
Food Source One is unlike any
other product on the market and is
available immediately because it is
not a drug and only contains natural
ingredier is already known to be safe.
Physicians and pharmacists are prais-
ing Food Source One as a natural,
drug free alternative for confronting
obesity.
