home and out of the service, fo-
llowing his latest tour of duty
in Germany. His brother, Julio,
is presently in Viet Nam. The
neighborhood honored Pete with
a barbeque Sunday afternoon..

As has been customary fa? the
past several years, the School
Boy Patrol, sponsored by the
Ft. Hancock Lions Club, made
their annual trip to Carlsbad
Caverns last Friday, April 29.
The boys making the trip were
Ernesto Robles, Craige Roberts,
Ernesto Marguez, Beto Portillo,
Tranquelion Ramirez, and they
were accompanied by Mr. Gene
Chavira, Mr. Manuel Tomez,
Mrs. Librado Esparza, and their
leader B. L. Roberts. All these
boys are in the 4th grade.
Saw Bill Williams, former lo-
cal farmer, and his wife Ann
yesterday. They have just re *
turned from a two year stay in
Germany. They are glad to be
back in the good old U. S. A.

There will be a covered dish
dinner at noon Sunday at the
Community Methodist Church,
prior to our 4th quarterly con-
ference meeting. District Sup-
ertindent Joe Scrimpshire of El
Paso will preside at the meet-
ing. The Senior Class of 1967
will be honored at the dinner.

The Senior Class held their
annual Carnival last Saturday
night in the school gym. Various
classes had booths as well as
the seniors, but turned over a
percentage of their revenue to
the seniors to assist in their trip
to Mexico after graduation.r
There was Bingo, a Cake Walk,
a Tov Walk, Wheel of fortune,
Dart throw, Slave Sale, Penny
Pitch, Hay Ride, Baseball Throw,
and Popcorn Stand, as well as
a Food Booth. Melloy Miller
won the Tex as-size stuffed ra-
bbit raffled by the 6th grade.

Patsy Hammons spent the week-
end in Ft. Hancock visiting her
parents Mr. and Mrs.S.A.
Hammons. Patsy lives and works
in El Paso.

Linda Gay Oliphant is nursing a
cracked elbow -complete with
cast - following a freakish acc-
ident at Socorro last Saturday
when Ft. Hancock was playing
softball against Tornillo. And
to add insult to injury - Torni-
llo won.

Mrs. Buenos Dulany was hos-
tess for the Afternoon Bridge
Club last Thursday in her home.
Mrs. Oncie Bean won first, Mrs.
Freda Stubbs second and Mrs.
Jewel Lutich won Ke no.

An AWOL soldier in a stolen
car was apprehended in Esperan-
za Monday morning, and taken
to the County Jail in Sierra Bla-
nca pending charges.

Word has been received that
Kenny Carr, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Carr, who moved fr=
om Ft. Hancock last June to
Fort Hancock, won the Region-
al Prose Reading for Boys for
his area, and will participate
this week-end at the State Meet
in Austin. We also understand
that Kenny has been awarded
a scholarship to any state sch-
ool of his choice. We expect
to hear pnore of this young man
doing well.

Rev. Roland McGregor of the
Community Methodist Church
announced Sunday that he will
not be here next year. He has
been given a full time minis-
terial job as pastor of j. Asbury/
Methodist Church in El Paso,
which means that he will not
be teaching at Burges High Sch-
ool any longer either. We are
sorry to lose him. His successor
has not been chosen at this time,
but will be announced later
this month.

We understand that Gary "Bu-
tch" Jennings is to arrive in
Fort Worth any day now, follow
ing a tour of duty with the Air
Force in the Phillippines. Wel-
come home, Butch.

Word has been received that
Harry Bryan, brother of Mrs. Ju-
lia Brown, and a former student
Ft. Hancock High School, who
has been serving as an Agricu-
ltural attache with the U.S.
Embassy in Pakistan for the past
two and a half years, is back
in the states as of next week.
He will assume his next assign-
ment in Guatamala next Nov-
ember.

WOMAN'S CLUB
TALENT SHOW
Ft. Hancock... The Hudspeth
Valley Woman's Club spon-
sored a Talent Show on Mon-
day. night at 7:30.. The tal-
ent was made ur> of student^
from the school. and the pre-
school children, and some ad-
ults.
First on the program was a
combo playing three numbers:
"Gloria", "Wipeout", and "For-
ever". The group consists of
Teddy Woodruff on lead guitar,
with Danny Wilson and Steve
Camp on accompanying gui-
tars and Craige Miller On drums.
The soloist was Frank Cisneros.
The second group was the St-
ory Hour children, Peter Woodruff,
Benny Rose, Chris Lutich, Kevin
Kuethe, Jerri Mann, Julia Mann,
Mimi Ligaretta, Lissa Pena, Sh-
eryl Force, Tootsie Lee Sims.
Their first number was a song,*'
"This Old Man". Then they pre-
sented a skit "Out Where Men
Are Men", narrated by Mrs.
Marie Force. The Sheriff was
played by Benny Rose: Deputy
standing in for Cowboy Stubbs
played by Peter Woodruff:Cow-
girl bv Shervl Force, Indian maid-
en by Tootsie Lee Sims; the Ra-
tlesnake by Chris LutichjHorse
by Mimi Legaretta, Mule by
Jerry Mann, Wolf by Lissa Pena;
and "The End" by Julia Mann.
Following the skit was a Style
Show of the latest fashions pre-
sented by Karen Wiseman, wear-
ing a "Box Style" dress;Angie
Dominguez wearing an "A " line
dress;Melloy Miller wearing a
"Sack" dress;1, Nellie, Sylvia
Dominguez wearing "Many"
Skirts, along with Gloria Cas-
tro; Holly Camp modeling the
latest in "bell-bottom" pants;
Mary Ann Galvan wearing a
"fish-net" overdress(complete
with fish) and demonstrating the
latest in perfume "fish-fume
and last but not least Susan Wood-
ruff in the latest "baby-doll"
fashion with bloomers. The style
show was narrated by Linda Gay
Oliphant, accompaniment on
the niano bv Sibbva Bai lev.
Tire third Grade then presented
a dance, "The Raspa" after wh-
ich six young lady members of
the class performed a current
dance step routine.
Next was another combo con-
sisting of Primi Baeza and Nat-
cho Flores, on saxaphone;Crai-
ge Miller on drums, and Oscar
Baeza on guitar , playing "Jal-
isco", and'Dos Ojos sin Rumbol'
Donnie Franklin followed the
combo with a reading, Case of
Gun ys_, Barclay, a humorous
story of a man who's leg was
removed by a doctor who wan-
ted to keep the leg for a sou-
venir, which act was protested
by the man, resulting in tire case
being taken to court to deter-
mine the proper owner.
Frenchy Mardirosian and Lau-
ra Woodruff presented a Pom-
Pom rountine, dressed in cheer-
leader costume s-
Much to the delight of allwho
enjoy western music and to hear
him sing - himself - Bill Kent
with his guitar, sang "Another
Day, Another Dollar" dedica-
ted to his grandfather, Mr. B. E.
Walker; " Mind Your Own Bu-
siness", "It's My Fault", and
'Walking The Dog".
The Grande Finale of the even-
ing'was the entire audience
singing, "God Bless America",
led by Bill Kent, and accom-
panied by Mrs. Johnnie Fern
Luedecke, which was in honor
of the local men serving in the
armed services, either at home
or abroad. Among these were
Gary Jennings, Curtis Carr, Bob-
bie Klement Julio Torres, To-
mas Varela, Angel Esparza, Juan
Esparza, Jesus Esparza, Federico
Dominguez, Severo Jimenez,
George Parada, Lucky Parada,
Tony Franco, and Ruben Franco.
Mrs. Mary Miller was chair-
man of the project for the Wo-
man's Club and deserves a big
round of applause for such a de-
lightful show.
