Drug screening set for
all students in extra-
curricular activities
At the regularly scheduled
meeting, on Jan. 5, the Llano
ISD Board of Trustees voted to
extend drug testing to all stu-
dents who participate in extra-
curricular activities.
Only those students who par-
ticipated in athletics were sub-
jected to a drug screening pro-
cess prior to that date.
Information letters have been
mailed to parents whose son/
daughter currently participates
in one or more extra-curricu-
lar activity.
Two public meetings will be
held to further communicate
the purpose of the Llano ISD
Drug-Testing Program and to
clarify any questions.
The meetings ate scheduled
for Thursday, Feb. 16, at 6
p.m. and Monday, Feb. 20, at
6 p.m. in the high school au-
ditorium. Any interested par-
ent is encouraged to attend.

• The new City of Horseshoe
Bay was the topic of several de-
cisions by the court.
They approved yearlong
interlocal agreements like the one
also approved for the City of Ll-
ano to conduct on-site sewage,
facilities and floodplain develop-
ment permitting.
In addition, 60-day interim pro-
cessing of plats and non-flood-
plain development applications
will be done while the city puts
its own staff and ordinances in
place. The City of Llano agree-
ment also included street paving
and improvement work.
A special meeting will be
called as soon as possible to con-
sider setting aside or amending
the court’s emergency executive
order banning all outdoor burn-
ing, based on a request by the
Lake LBJ Municipal Utility Dis-
trict to bum landscaping refuse.
Tree and shrub trimmings from
throughout the city have been pil-
ing up at the Horseshoe Bay Sew-
age Treatment Plan and the MUD
staff proposed breaking it down
into small controlled burns to be
supervised by its fire department.

household of 2.38 persons. The
DNR recorded 29 conventional
homes, five manufactured homes.

the city of 13 conventional houses

Precinct 2, including Buchanan
Dam communities, had the small-

F mm the year 2(XX) to 2001, the

timate exceeded I,(XX)people and
in subsequent years the growth
forecast has been steady between

County has the same problem,"
said Precinct 2 Commissioner
Henry Parker.
County 9-1-1 Coordinator
Annette Durham received ap-
proval to designate less than
three-digit house numbers to two
structures in Horseshoe Bay.
They are 94 Island.Drive and 96
Island Drive. Durham received
approval for assigning the name
Freeman Road to a private spur
off of CR 414 in Precinct 4.
Also in Precinct 1, a prelimi-
nary plat and a re-plat were ap-
proved.
The preliminary plat for a de-
velopment by Tom Nelson to be
known as Marble Springs Ranch
was approved for 342.11 acres
out of the John Koepff Survey
N.2, abstract No. 469 and the
John Ingram Survey No. 225,
abstract No. 417. The replat was
sought by Paul Bushwood com-
bining half of lots 40 and 42 and
all of Lot 41 to be known as Lot

Residents of Kingsland again
faced the limitations of their un-
incorporated municipality during
a lengthy public hearing concern-
ing Reven Acres Addition. Two
residents registered strong con-
cerns about changes in quality of
life and property values that
might follow removal of Lot No.
6 from the strict deed restrictions
of their subdivision.
The county oversees compli-
ance with state rules for subdivi-
sions but does not serve the plan-
ning and zoning functions of a
city government.
Other action:
Meeting for more than five
hours, the court accepted an
amended contract with the
Unifirst uniform company.
Brascom said the contract had
been pared from a five-year con-
tract with minimum monthly
costs of $166 per month to an
annual agreement for a minimum
of $50.14 per month. New uni-
forms with more comfortable
fabric and new county logos will
be ordered immediately he said.
The Office of the Precinct 2
Constable was assigned a rotation
vehicle from the Sheriff’s Office.
Jerald Moore, who currently
holds that office, said he had re-
quested an old car for patrol use
four years ago and had hoped to
receive the old vehicle retired last
year by the Precinct I Constable.
Since fall budget deliberations,
the court has waffled on how to
fill the county’s need for an ani-
mal control officer and for a code
enforcement officer. Previously
proposing the combination of the
functions into one position, the
court Monday reduced the job
description to animal control only
until the time required for that
work could be assessed by the
new employee.

Cupola restoration delayed
At the meeting Monday of the Llano County Commissioners
Court, Precinct 4 Commissioner Leon Tucker reported that resto-
ration of the courthouse cupola is not expected to be completed
in time for Llano's 150th Anniversary Celebration.
He said that a review by architects and the contractors revealed
that the structure is off the correct dimensions by about two inches
and will have to be re-done.
Rising costs in the copper market have drastically increased
costs of the copper sheathing of the structure and the contractor
for that work had to be replaced, he also said.
Work will likely not be finished before June or July, he esti-
mated.
