Carson County Under New
Scabies Quarantine Order
Effective August 1, 1972, Carson
County along with 33 other Pan-
handle counties, came under a
new Quarantine Order, related
to Scabies.
Simply the new quarantine reads
that all cattle to be moved with-
in the 34 counties must be dipped
unless they fall within the follow-
ing exceptions.
Cattle moving direct to slaugh-
ter; cattle moving to slaughter
through a livestock market; cat-
tle moving to a livestock market
for sale and dipping prior to re-
lease; cattle released from live-
stock market to an offician dip
point with permit; cattle moving
to an official dip point; cattle
officially dipped within the past
7 days, provided accompanied
by a dip certificate; cattle from
outside the quarantine area mov-
ing through the quarantine area
with no stop-overs; cattle mov-
ing (same owner) from one pre-
mise to another premise within
the quarantined area; cattle from
outside the quarantine area mov-
ing into the quarantine area for
grazing.
Cattle can still be moved dir-
ectly to auction sales (where they
will be dipped before leaving) or
directly to slaughter without dip-
ping or permit. One of the most
critical aspects of the quarantine
is that cattle that changes owner-
ship within the county must be
dipped.
Further information regarding
the quarantine can be obtained
from the Animal Health Com-
mission in Amarillo. The phone
number is 376-5151, Extension
2291. Inspectors in the county
are: Gary Edwards, Panhandle,
phone 537-3905, and Jack Barn-
ett, Groom Texas, phone 248-
4392.
This quarantine is in effect un-
til further notice.
